That's gotta be a blow to MSU. That guy was a great shooter already, with 3 years left to play. (Just looked it up ... he lead the Big Ten with 49% on 3 pointers last year). Really good stretch 4 prospect.
Late timing of this is surprising, but reports are that he had previously been suspended by Izzo twice already, for academic reasons. Seems possible that a third violation occurred and he was shown the door.

I think it's a significant blow. He appeared poised for a much bigger role. Big guys that can stroke it from 3 don't grow on trees.
Reading between the lines it sounds like the issue was skipping classes and study halls, not so much his actual grades.
