per KELO TV:
Growing up in the small town of Cheney, Kansas, Jerry Kill is proud of his blue collar background. He sees the strength of small communities, and how they can be a hidden gem with football talent.
"It's just like anything - people don't understand. Just because there is a smaller population in the state, there are good football players everywhere. You know, theirs good coaching everywhere. Where I am from - I've recruited 8-man players. So I think there are good players everywhere, and there are certainly good players here," Gophers Head Football Coach Jerry Kill said.
The reigning Big Ten Coach of the Year, Coach Kill is rebuilding a Minnesota program that has not won a Big Ten title since 1967. Kill has guided Minnesota to their first back-to-back winning seasons in over 10 years.
"I just think we keep getting better players. Better players make better coaches. You know, I think our kids bought in the last two years and understand what we expect. A good example is that we've had seven straight semesters with a (GPA) 3.0 or above," Kill said.
