Kaler says keeping Maturi short term would not have worked

For me, this is the best quote:

"Many boosters and former Gophers athletes are hoping the next AD has ties to Minnesota or is a U graduate. How much is that a priority?

I have a Minnesota root. I left and came back. I think that's pretty healthy. ... Ties to Minnesota would be a plus but not a requirement. Absolutely it was a plus for me. But it's not on that first list of requirements. I understand that people are very passionate about the need for it to be someone with Minnesota ties, for it to be an "M" man. I hear and respect all of those elements. But I want the best-qualified person."

Hear, hear! No Glen Mason, No Tony Dungy, No Peter Najarian, No Jeff Diamond.

A qualified, competent University Athletic Director.

What we don't need is unfounded, thoughtless provincialism.

The Big Ten record of the revenue sports will be the real barometer of how competent the new AD is. Too many Big Ten losses and not enough progress by his revenue sport coaches and programs would be a very BAD thing for the U of M, the new AD AND prexy k. Only Big Ten wins coming from the revenue sports in significant numbers will indicate competence in the AD's office as well as in the office of the prexy at the U of M. Of course, there must also be ever increasing numbers of student athletes graduating and the programs MUST be run clean and scandal free!

I see the booze is flowing like water once again. Wren is a national treasure.

Wren is already screaming at the new athletics director for not having enough Big Ten wins.

Totally disagree...I want to see an unqualified, incompetent AD who displays founded and thoughtful provincialism. :)

That's it? Well that shouldn't be too hard to do.

Let's see, ever increasing Big10 wins, ever increasing graduation rate and no scandals. Why didn't the former AD's think of something like this. Fool proof!

I got this guys. I can speak a bit of Wren.

Wren, Wran, Wrun, dude or dudette (whatever the case may be) you cannot start counting BIG TEN WINS until the start of the Big Ten SEASON. You are already trying to judge prexy K and the second coach after Mason, but the Big Ten season has yet to begin. That is a VERY bad thing and you are Wren, Wran, Wrunning down a very SLIPPERY slope. What is your real AGENDA? Who knows???

What I do know is that I will be here to contrast your opinion. Especially when you are trying to judge the new Prexy and the new AD before the start of the BIG TEN season. You do not know whether they will beat Mason’s Big Ten win mark of 40% wins until AFTER the season. Until then, you have to take them one play, one series, one quarter, one game at a time. Catch my drift or is it Wren, Wran, Wrunning away from you?

Is the current coach better than Mason???? Time, and ONLY time will tell. Will the new AD need to be run out of town like MACturi? We do not know that yet and will have to let the Big Ten SEASON play out. Is prexy K better than prexy B? Wait until we see how committed he is to Big Wins. The only way we can do that is to play the Big Ten season – ONE GAME AT A TIME.

After the first game we will know 11.11111% of the 2012 Big Ten season, no more, no less. We will still have 88.888888889% of the season to go before we can see PROOF of how committed prexy K, the coach, and the new AD are to the ONLY thing that matters: Big Ten wins. But how much influence does MACturi still have? He will still be on campus. What will his role in the Big Ten season be? Is his voice being contrasted? Maybe, maybe not. We will not get to TRULY judge prexy K and the new AD until MACturi is off our campus and has completed his Badger spy mission. We will only be able to see whether the new “powers” are better than the ones before this Brewster in 2013 after MACturi is gone once and for all.

Until then I will be here to contrast your opinion whenever you try to judge the new “powers” on ANYTHING but Big Ten wins without MACturi influencing the team. You have your opinion and I have mine and I will contrast yours whenever and wherever I feel like that is what needs to be done. What is a fact is that you do NOT know how committed prexy K and the coach and the AD are to Big Ten wins until AFTER the season.

Replacement Gopher

I have only one thing to say about your parody of a wren post:

;0) or is that three things?

Sounds pretty good... I'll be here replacement person. I'm getting pretty tired of all the Big Ten losses, aren't you replacement poster? The number of Big Ten wins vs. Big Ten losses is the ONLY way to compare Big Ten Programs, Big Ten Coaches, Big Ten AD's and Big Ten Prexys. The AD can fire the Coach. The Prexy can fire the AD. The buck stops with the prexy. Unfortunately, the prexys (former prexys, at least) at the University of Minnesota all too often never really had a committment to putting a highly competetive football program out there for the public...and it has shown with the record over the past 30 to 40 seasons. With most of the prexys of the past 30 to 40 years the buck was always dropped when committment to producing and maintaining a highly competetive football program was considered. They talked the talk but never really walked the walk when it came to the football program. And, the fans always bent over backwards to "buy" the b.s. the prexy was spewing. RESULTS are the only way to comprehend "prexy-speak..." The prexy either does it...OR...the prexy doesn't do it. He/She can talk around in circles and b.s. the public and the media and sound very good in the process. But, RESULTS define what the prexy actually does with the program and is committed to with the program.

I'll be here replacement and we shall count the Big Ten wins and the Big Ten losses and do a real inventory of exactly where our prexy...ad...and Coach stand compared to the other Big Ten coaches...ads and prexys...

The actual Big Ten record can NEVER be replaced as the final word re: the current and historical standing of our Football Program, our coaches...our athletic directors and our prexy's committment levels....Personally, I want nothing more...or...less for prexy k, our new ad and Coach Kill than a LOT of Big Ten Football wins. A .400 winning percentage just won't cut it for any of them will it replacement dude or dudette, which ever your individual case(s) may be....
