Hey fellow holers if you're booking downtown the hotel parking is very expensive. We booked the GasLamp Marriott and thank God the reservation agent gave us a heads up that the valet parking was 45.00 a night!. They had a real good Triple A.rate, but it didn't include the parking . We booked off our Marriott Rewards card and got a rate that included the parking. If you stay downtown you can take the trolly to the game which you catch right in the Gas Lamp quarters. Stadium is 5.7 seven miles from downtown. Cheers.....????

If you are flying into SD, at least you really will not need to even rent a car.

The airport is close to downtown, the Gaslamp district and the Ocean/Pac Beaches north of Sea World. You can easily get on the train that Ruppert referenced to go to the game, and it is possible a hotel shuttle might haul you around, even to the stadium since it is only 5-6 miles away.

Since San Diego is a large city the transit options are very good, although certainly not as good as SF/Oakland.

How's Uber been performing SD? Folks satisfied?

We got burned by the $45 a night last January. Good rate, great location but $180 for parking!?!

Btw....Battle of the Bands is downtown at 6:00 pm on the 26th. Walking distance from any of the downtown hotels.

uber is good. Downtown SD is small, easy to walk around. Green Trolley line from downtown to Old Town, Fashion Valley Mall and Qualcomm

I booked a downtown hotel that has a free airport shuttle -- going to use the trolley to get to/from the game.

We are staying at the Hilton Bayfront ... how far from downtown is that?

that's at the southern end of downtown. easy and short walk to the gaslamp for restaurants and bars. green line trolley stop across the street

+10000 I hope to see a lot of fans there! Hope its not based off of fan cheering though, cause I worry we'll have a repeat of the hotdog fiasco of last year (All of our fans do their part, but are literally outnumbered) :p

Taji34, it appears there is a Battle of the Bands at 11am and another one at 6pm ... what is the difference between the two? Any insight?

Nope, no real insight! Haha, other than they people running the show like battle of the bands type events.

I believe the 11am one (on the 26th right?) is a smaller event (site says roughly 1,200 people, so if both were bands there in their entirety it would almost be half the people there :p), so it won't be a whole band scenario AFAIK for either school, but I haven't received our itinerary for the trip from the Band Director yet as that got finalized earlier today. I do know the one at 6pm will have all of both bands. The site also has "Battle of the Bands" in quotes for the event at 11:00am so that may mean "They'll both be there and we'll have them trade a few songs as a teaser for later that night", while the one at 6pm is a marching band showcase, and the battle seems to be the main event.

I'll update with what I know when I get more info.

Make sure you get to the beaches, even if you just walk on them, up to your knees in the water. Mission Beach, Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach.. all the way to Lajolla.

Sitting at the game, or sitting at the bar feels a lot better after getting pounded by the waves, and the waves are pretty strong at times in San Diego. If you are downtown, or elsewhere get up by Crystal Pier and enjoy what makes San Diego unique. The Grand/ Garnett area is sort of like Uptown, but there are 12 foot waves on the west end, instead of Lake Calhoun.

This whole areas is just north of Sea World, between the Ocean and Mission Bay, and it is one of my favorite places in the world.

For those who haven't booked yet, I highly recommend the Hotel Palomar at the Gaslamp Quarter. Walkable to all kinds of restaurants and bars, excellent rooms, many with balconies and amazing bathrooms, plush robes in the rooms, they'll bring you a free goldfish if you ask, and free wine receptions at night.

Goldfish? My kids would love that. Oh, you don't mean the crackers do you.
