I'd be more excited about it if they didn't also have Ball and White. Ball runs really hard, and White is the real deal. As good as I think those backs are, next year people are going to see just how valuable Carimi and Moffit were to this team.
Clay will be the next P.J. Hill. I imagine someone is telling him he can be the next Jerome Bettis, but he doesn't run with nearly as much forward lean as Bettis. He has been awesome at the college level, but that's because he can run people over. That's not going to happen at the next level.
I actually like Ball more than White, but it's really close. Those two will still be the best 1-2 in the conference next season.
White's the best Wisconsin RB by a wide margin. If Clay has half the career of Ironhead Heyward, he'll be extremely lucky.
I think Clay will have more of an NFL impact than PJ Hill. When healthy Clay seemed much faster than Hill.
As a Gopher fan, I am glad to see Clay go, because when healthy Clay is the best of the Wisconsin running backs. Ball and White are no slouches however.
Gopherbadgerman, who is the leader in the clubhouse to be the Sconnie QB next year?
i think james white is so overated. you know the sayiny a GREAT offensive line can build a good running back. Thats the line i think of when i heard JAMES WHITE.
There's no debate that the line is what makes Wisconsin's runningbacks successful. If I have to pick one guy on their roster to run behind the line, it's White for me. He's the most complete back on their roster.i think james white is so overated. you know the sayiny a GREAT offensive line can build a good running back. We'll be quite good with Ball and White. Jeff Lewis redshirted this year, and was ahead of White on the depth chart in the fall before he got dinged. He's the fasted of the RBs. Got good wiggle, but not quite as shifty as White.
At QB, it looks to be a battle between Budmayr and Brennan. Budmayr is very bright, has a good arm, but is short and has very limited experience. Brennan has a great arm, is a little wild. A world of potential, but no experience. Phillips is recovering from his 2nd ACL tear/surgery, and may be back for fall camp. We're still hoping to land Jacoby Brissett, and have a pretty good shot. He would immediately have the best arm in the program, but how often is a freshman ready to contribute?
On the OL, we're going to miss Carimi and Moffitt, but we have a good plan. Wagner, the starter at RT will move to LT, where he backed up Carimi last year. Travis Frederick redshirted this year, but started at C as a true freshman before an ankle injury shelved him. He played some OG at the end of the season and in the bowl against Miami, and will replace Moffitt at LG. They aren't the caliber of the guys they are replacing, but they are pretty darn good. At RT, we get back Oglesby. If he doesn't win back the job, it will likely be Casey Dehn. He was a backup at both LT & RT this fall, and played very well. Another kid with a good future.
I thought Terry Jackson II ran for 1000+ yards in 2002 because he was an elite back...
That said, I've seen enough from White to believe he is legit.
