I'm not a journalist but I would think a good journalist would quote his source. Otherwise anyone could just make anything up and blog it. I heard something on the radio the other day about bloggers. They were interviewing someone who broke the story about Farve. They said their policy is to run with the story even if they are not sure it is credible and print a retraction later it they are wrong. It all may be true about Brewster but I don't think you print something unless you can quote the source and make the story credible.

They didn't print anything. They blogged something. Blogging is considered opinion and not news. Therefore no source needed.

Blogging is not always considered just opinion. Bloggers are starting to get sued for libel on a regular basis. During libel suits courts are even issuing orders to require the disclosure of the identities of anonymous bloggers on news media web sites. This is a word to the wise for GopherHolers who like to post rumors and innuendo about people without being 100% certain of their sources.

A friend of mine is an editor for one of the local pApers and I asked him this very question. What he said is it depends on the source. If it was someone like bruininks or maturi they would run with it (w/o revealing the source). But if it's some schmuck who works in Bierman they would need corroboration from a 2nd source. That's why they didn't break the story. Sports radio stations, OTOH, tend to treat journalism standards more like guidelines than rules. That's why 1500 ran with it. 2 other things:

1.Once Espn radio broke it, then it's kosher for the paper to refer to them

2.as I spectated yesterday, i'll bet the rumor was banging around the strib Thursday nite. That's why souhan scribbled off that crapazzed column on the back of A cocktail napkin
