Per a Fuller tweet-

Tubby said Devoe Joseph likely starts at PG against St. Joseph's. But he was still praising how Maverick played under control for a frosh.

I miss Al. But, even through Devoe lacks Al's defensive skills, he and Hoffarber were a potent combination during the Victoria Univ., Canada game. Together they shot the lights out from 3 point land. Maybe we'll get an encore performance.

Yes... I get the feeling the "punishment" lasted a little longer than the suspension. Guessing things are all good between Devoe and Tubby. Devoe is shaking off the rust and will be a BIG TIME PLAYER as the year goes on...

Devoe is a great player, but this team does not need him at point guard. He hogs the ball, makes poor decisions and really doesn't demonstrate that great of leadership. He's an excellent guy to have on the court, but he's better off at the two-guard. As we've seen with Nolen on the bench, the ball doesn't move quite as well and the flow of the offense is diminished. If anything, Hoffarber should get the start at PG. Keep Joseph on the court, but keep him at the two.

Joseph's been back all of one game. The criticism's of Nolan in the past have been centered around "the ball doesn't move (in the half court) and the flow of the offense is diminished."

I'll be the first to agree, Nolan has been a much better PG so far this year, but let's let this play out a bit before jumping to conclusions.

I would disagree in that we need to put the ' A ' team out on the floor. This is an important game and Mav is doing fine but we need to get the best five out there.

I concur. Devoe is one of the Gophers' best 5 players, so assuming there's no lingering issues from his suspension, there's no reason not to start him tonight. Whether it be at the 1 (while Al is out) or 2 doesn't matter to me. I prefer the Gophers' best players play the lion's share of the minutes, and that includes who starts, too.

I agree. I would tend to think Tubby will start to shorten up the bench a bit as well. St. Joe's is a team we should beat handily but it's good to see, hopefully, by giving Joseph the start, that they're intent on not screwing around with this one. Not that they don't take opponents lightly but with our first true road game this year we need to put this one away with authority.

I liked what I saw from Maverick last game. He played his best game by far and looked the part.

Devoe has been back 2 games actually and both of the games we've struggled to get good ball movement on offense. I love Devoe but he is not a PG. He doesn't put his teammates in position to score and has poor court awareness. I'm really hoping Hollins can play PG next year so we don't have to have Devoe as the full time PG next year.

Translated, we have to get ready for the Big Ten season

I'm not sure Minnesota wins with Al at PG tonight vs St Joe's. Hard to say, of course, but the pts that came from Joseph tonight were pretty crucial in turning back several second half runs, and I can't see Nolen knocking down those shots.

Suffice to say it'll be better to have both available. I'm not very keen on Ahanmisi running this team in a B10 game.

With Rodney playing just so so, it wouldn't surprise me to see a three guard lineup a fair amount with Devoe, Hoff and Nolen. Nolen would have help a lot tonight or any night. Devoe shot great but we need both.

We might not have won this game without Joseph's shooting. Then again, the dynamic that Nolen brings on defense is hard to measure.

Don't you think Joseph still would've scored a good amount of points with Nolen playing? Also, I didn't watch the game, but I'm guessing with Nolen in the lineup their guards don't score 21 and 29 points.
