From MV's blog: "After a whirlwind tour of visits — including stops to Lincoln, Minneapolis and East Lansing – it appears Lombard (IL) wide receiver prospect Jordan Westerkamp is closing in on making his final decision, narrowing his group to three. Guess what? The Gophers made his final cut, along with the Huskers and Spartans, out of 13 BCS offers. Not time to gloat just yet, but Coach Zebrowski is doin’ work on the recruiting trail and would deserve the lion’s share of credit if Westerkamp does become a Gopher. I’ll remain objective here and set myself up for the inevitable Westerkamp goes elsewhere meme"

He looks good in Maroon and Gold in his HS pics.

If he's interested in playing early he's got a great opportunity here.
That, along with a smart and capable staff, and an offense that will effectively run the ball and get the wideouts alot of one on one opportunities should be a draw.
If he chooses a different path so be it. He'd be a big man on campus from day 1 here and a weapon for coach Kill to use for 4 years.

If he wants to have some playing time right away this recruit might be a good fit.

If he wants to WIN he'll come here. Yea I said it

It is not like the Gophers do not have serious need of WRs. He will get his shot to be #1 and make a big mark in the BT.

At first I was wondering why a kid from IL would consider Minnesota until it occured to me the current staff has been recruiting IL since 2001. I wonder how many more students in IL will consider Minnesota in the future.

We are actually recruiting Illinois pretty hard. Which like you said, makes sense. Our coaching staff seems to really want to know the kid before they offer (which probably somewhat explains the Rallis situation).

We are going pretty hard after these kids from Illinois too:
Jaleel Johnson DT (HS teammate of Westerkamp)
Robert Gregory ATH (HS QB but he will be WR/DB in college)
Marcus Fleming WR
Ryan Ward OT
Dean Lowery DE

There are probably more too...

In the past the Gophers haven't really recruited IL hard and I never wondered why not. The state of Minnesota isn't far and obviously Minnesota is a nicer place live. ;) Seriously, this staff understands recruiting the cold athlete and it is smart to continue to use their 10 year IL highschool conections.

He would also have a legitimate shot at early playing time at WR at Nebraska as well so it will be a tough battle on that front. He would also be a big man on campus there as all their players are, they are treated like gods in Lincoln.

You also have to live in Nebraska if you go there. Just sayin.

Odd you should mention this. I've NEVER heard you say anything like this before...

We just say that Minnesota is a cold Ohio, without the crappy, run-down industries, like in in Ohio...and Illinois. Or something like that...

We could just say Minnesota is a cold Nebraska, except for trees and lakes and people and jobs and you can get to the next town in under an hour.

Don't forget the Big Red towel for wiping off one's chin.

Jordan Westerkamp has committed to Nebraska. They don't lose many recruits that they get to come to their spring game. He was impressed with the level of fan support/attendance at the game. I would still see it as a positive sign for Coach Kill that he and his staff made the top three for a kid that had no ties to Minnesota.

See?

He changed it from Minnesota lock that he proclaimed yesterday to Nebraska after the commitment was announced this morning.

That wasn't so hard. A simple question, and a simple answer. Thanks.
