per Shipley:

“There’s no such thing as a bad win,” Claeys said.

Well, not for everyone, apparently.

But Gophers fans want something big, like a Rose Bowl. They’ve waited since 1967 — the ones in the expensive seats, anyway — and are understandably cranky. A last-second victory over Rutgers might have played in 1927, but that’s ancient history now.

The program took some big steps under Jerry Kill, getting the Gophers back to respectability with some nice victories over Nebraska, Penn State, Michigan and Iowa. A calendar year from Kill’s retirement, and into Claeys’ tenure, is too soon to take a step back.

Do we trust the coach on this one, just for the hell of it? We’ve already seen that what a team does one week — like, say, winning 31-10 at Maryland — can have absolutely no effect on what it does the following week. So why not, as Claeys suggested, just enjoy this one and assume the best?

Skeptimism, that’s why. It’s harder to beat than Wisconsin.
