After finishing the upcoming Sunday profile of Seantrel Henderson, I think the odds of him becoming a Gopher are no better than 20-80.

I'd put it at 2-98. I would be happily shocked if he joins the Gophers. But, it would be shocking.

Saying we have a 20% chance isn't really all that bearish considering he is taking 5 official visits + unofficial visit(s) to Minnesota. 20% = 1/5 and there are 6 teams involved (+ possibly Michigan).

Talked to someone in the know tonight here at the Vikes game. He told me USC, Florida, or possibly Notre Dame. I've been hearing USC for a while.

Can you give us anything more than someone in the know? I realize you are acting as a journalist and may want to protect your sources but this is the third different group of 3 that I've heard from "someone in the know" in the last 2 weeks. There are so many inconsistencies from people that claim to be in the know that I don't think anybody really knows what SH is thinking.

About a month ago SH himself told a reporter that it had been more than a year since he had talked to one of the coaches that is alleged be recruiting him. Is it just me or is that a little odd?

exactly. all you need to remember is it is the same set of reporters, bloggers around the country (all trying to scoop each other with nameless/faceless "sources" close to the situation) who "claimed" all summer long to know what brett favre was going to do.

no offense to doogie, but i will take the credibility of his source that is "in the know" as being equal to a giant turd in the street telling me that he knows where seantrel is going to go to school. i don't think anyone other than seantrel (including his busy-body, talks too much to the press dad) has any idea where he is going to go. until HE announces and signs his LOI there is no reason for any school to not recruit him as hard as possible.

Looks like the STrib/Millea will have a huge profile on Seantrel on Sunday:

Coming Sunday: Seantrel Henderson

I spent the bulk of this week researching and writing a lengthy profile of Seantrel Henderson, the senior offensive lineman from Cretin-Derham Hall who is the nation’s top-ranked football recruit in the class of 2010. The story will appear in the Sunday Star Tribune and be available on startribune.com.

Henderson is a unique young man. It’s rare that a high school athlete is the subject of such an in-depth story, but he is well worth the attention and the story should make for interesting reading. We’ll also offer game video of Henderson, plus compare him to Vikings tackles Bryant McKinnie and Phil Loadholt (hint: Henderson is bigger than both of them) and relate what he has in common with Joe Mauer, Adrian Peterson and Parcy Harvin.

Go Gophers!!

I'm moosish on Henderson becoming a Gopher. Honestly, the Henderson thing is being driven to the ground. We already have a ton of linemen, Brew and co. have been known to spot talent well, and the lineman from Baylor who went #2 in tthe draft this year was a nobody when he was recruited for college. It's a crap shoot. Yeah, it's great to keep awesome players in Minny, but we don't have the luxury of having all the tools to keep them here, yet. Who knows? A 9 win season could make him think twice. Honestly? I'm content with the stable of linemen we picked up this year already. This year's class in any Mason year would make him look like the second coming of the Messiah. We will be stacked on the line in a couple of years, Henderson or not.

^^^ Really well said.

But I'd still like to see that 8-9 win season to really make Henderson think about it!

Frankly, I don't like speculating on what a 17-year-old kid might or might not do...I am not that far removed from that age, and maturity-wise I'm still there, and I couldn't decide what to have for lunch most days...he could change his mind a lot in the next few months...but based on a few people who would know, I keep hearing USC above everyone else.

fair enough.....and USC is what others have been speculating as well......we will just have to wait and see.

hopefully, pete carroll and USC will have finally been taken down by the NCAA before then! :D

Kind of makes me wish we had a crack at USC this year. I get the feeling that the team which beats USC this year will get a big boost in his mind. And if USC beats OSU, ND, etc., etc., then his papa will get his (apparent) wish, and SH will go to LA.

Im not saying we would have a good shot of beating them this year, but it probably would be as good as the odds we will have of beating them next year.

It sure seems to me

from following his recruitment and things he has said that is falls into the BIG SCHOOL ITIS category. He just seems like the type of guy that has to go to a big name school. Its also called the Michael Floyd syndrome. Unless something major happens-such as we go to the Rose Bowl--or go undefeated or something off the charts----just watch him sign with a big name glamour school. Minnesota is not big enough for him.

The Gophers appear to have a very slim chance to land SH. But its very common for the #1 Rivals recruit to bypass their home state team(s). The last two #1's to stay instate were Ernie Sims to FSU in 03 and Vince Young to Texas in 02. Adrian Peterson left Texas to play for the Sooners.

Some have hinted that SH shunning the Gophers will put a black mark on Brewsters recruiting ability along with Floyd to ND.

I don't agree with that as top players often want to play for the best and most glamarous programs (ND).

Well, not thrilled with the "in the know" comment, but given Henderson's visiting schedule (one at USC and a few others who happen to be playing USC that weekend), it is probably true. Until he commits, anything can happen, but I think the stars have caught his eyes.

I have no doubt that there is validity to some of the comments we read on the 'Hole.

One FACT that I can share with regard to Seantrel's recruitment is this:

During this past spring, Seantrel really soured on Notre Dame. I won't go into the reason(s) why, but I KNOW he did. Notre Dame was not close to making Seantrel's Top 10 list 3 or 4 months ago.

Now, fast forward to late August, and Notre Dame appears to be on his Top 3-5 list. Why? What gives? I'm not sure, though I could find out;)

This is still a pretty fluid situation. Most kids, including Seantrel, are uncertain about many things, including where they might go to college in 12 months.

Two of the biggest factors that may impact Seantrel's decision:
1. the NCAA will come down on Southern Cal...just wait and see:D
2. his ACT score needs improvement
