JoePa

There was a rumor that one candidate said he wasn't interested, then had his agent contact the Gophers to say he had changed his mind. Some speculated that Golden had been told JoePa was coming back. Could be - but I think the initial rumor was pretty flimsy to begin with. Who knows?

If I said it once I have said it two hundred times, PSU will hire off their staff.

I said it before and will say it again...Al Golden will stay at Temple...besides what my friends friend overheard in the Temple Prez office...Golden's buy out to get out of his new contract signed before the season is over $2 mil before Dec 15, 2010...and $1.5 mill before Dec 15, 2011. I think he is waiting for PSU and expects Joe Pa to be their for two more years...then if he doesn't get it...he walks. Otherwise, he says he loves Temple, Philly, the East Coast, etc.

Im think we are going to hire Hoke...just my opinion.

I believe that is true, but man, what a stupid deal on Golden's part. Why would you sign a contract with a buyout that is almost double your annual salary?

Otherwise, he says he loves Temple, Philly, the East Coast, etc.

I'm sure that he does, but if you were to tell me that you could double my salary if I moved to Burma, I'd be on the next flight to Naypyidaw. I think most would tell you the same.

Everybody knows that if you're moving to Burma, Yangon is where it's at.

Being that Al Golden has spent his entire life in the East, it doesn't surprise me that he prefers to stay there. That said, you have to really love Temple to stick it out playing in a massive NFL stadium far from campus in front of paltry crowds. Even when you're winning bigger than any coach in decades.

Exactly. That Ohio-Temple game was almost as good as a non-BCS matchup could get this year, and the crowd was shameful. It was depressing to see when watching on TV - I imagine it was even worse in person.

Besides the buyout (that is pretty steep for a MAC school) the rest of that is all the same coach-speak that anyone will engage in. He won't turn down a Big 10 job unless he has major, major ties to Philly that means he never wants leave (I haven't seen anything that indicates that?) he's 100% convinced PSU is his, or he simply thinks the Minnesota job is garbage. The last one is the most likely reason he'd say no, but that is not the reason you're indicating.

I think it depends on how you look at it. The buyout makes it difficult for him to leave, but it also would have made it difficult to fire him if things had not worked out.
