ZZZZZZZ. This hire just does nothing for me. We could do worse. But we could certainly do better.
 

As Joe says "you heard it hear first!" Of course I can't even remember who the other candidate he said that about was now? I was like a month ago....
 


I actually would really like this hire, albeit I am no expert on the guy and am unsure of his offense and deffense schemes. But Great name first Of all. Coordinator at major schools. Young. Winning record with head coaching experience. Clean record. I really don't see what makes him so bad? I would count this is a successful hire before the games have been played anyways.
 



He has a winning record at Southern Miss, has some good OC experience at Florida and Okie St. His recruiting looks about as good as ours has been the last three years, even netted a five-star guy his first year.

Defensively....hope he grabs a good coordinator, I'll leave it at that.
 

This was a name I had never heard of so I checked him out on Wikipedia and it sounds like he's sort of a poor man's Mullen. I then google imaged him to see what he looks like, he reminds me of Mac from It's Always Sunny:

He definitely has the resume, but geez I hope he doesn't bring his defensive coordinator with him.
 



Jeff Bower built the program. Fedora has continued the same level of success.

At Southern Miss he is treading water, absolutely no better than what the previous coach had done for the previous 10 years.
 


As footballfringe just tweeted, "must have been a quick trip since he was in Hattiesburg about an hour ago for his weekly press conf."

Question: how did Vacation Joe suddenly become a go-to-guy in terms of Gopher sports info?

I predicted Calhoun in the pick 'em contest, but still think that it's going to be someone that hasn't been (or hardly) mentioned.
 



I can see the student section full of gold fedora's now! They must wear fedora's to the games in Hattiesburg? Anyone know?

I know nothing about it him either, but I have seen worse resumes.

Yeah, further inspection tells me I don't want, sounds like he's kinda riding coattails. Seems like an okay hire, but nothing special.

That last post sounds like the "Tubby to Virginia" rumors from a couple years back, when he's sittin in his office while people are tracking a plane that supposedly has him on it LOL

This is my concern too. He doesn't have to apologize for this, but a guy like Golden or Hoke has proven he can rebuild. We're a lot more like Temple and SDSU were when they took over then Southern Miss.
 

This is the media world we live in today. They can just write or say anything they want. If it ends up not being true, they just say "that's just what I heard." If they are correct (which happens maybe 5% of the time), they look like a great reporter.

While the hoopla over the plane thing was ridiculous, it was an awfully big coincidence that an empty plane happened to be going from St. Paul to Charlottesville on the same day UVa announced it's new coach. Tubby was a lot closer to going to UVa then most realize.
 


I just do not think that most of these score more and pray on defense coaches can do well in the big Ten.

Leach is one of the few exceptions.

I think the answer is that he and Doogie are the only ones who seem to care. I appreciate their efforts.

Fedora doesn't seem any better or worse than any of the other B-list candidates we've talked about.

GREAT find - a quick browsing of the So Miss fan pages corroborates that he had a press conference in Hattiesburg this afternoon. There is no way he is in town right now.

I know that - I took a look at the sight and he's got some funny things on there.

I wish he'd be considered, but Fedora would be fine.

THIS. He's not in town today unless he's flying an F-16. Although, to be fair, Schmit didn't specify if he had been on campus today or not.
 

So...is SOMEONE still here and we just don't know who? Or is there actually no one on in town?
