I tweet him a question on Minnesota.

@ESPNLunardi Is Minnesota for real this year? Can they be a top 4 big ten team?

His respond.
Might be easier to make the Final Four.

Read that somewhere earlier this year. Might have been him. Although the quote I read said something along the lines of it being easer to make the final 4 than it is to win the Big 10. Not finish top 4.

I'd say top 4 is significantly easier than final four. Just my opinion.

A little hyperbole on Lunardi's part but look at what is happening in the ACC/B1G challenge. Michigan jumped on the pre-season favorite N.C. State early and won, Indiana is absolutely brutalizing North Carolina by almost 30 in the 2nd half, and Minnesota just controlled the defending ACC Tournament Champion on their home court. The ACC is the number 2/3 conference depending on who you talk to, and the B1G is just showing how much distance between #1 and the rest of the field is.

Duke vs Ohio State is going to be huge tomorrow, if the Buckeyes knock off the Devils then the preseason top 4 teams in the ACC will all have been beaten in the challenge. That's never happened in history.

Winning the B1G tournament would be harder than going through a bracket to a Final Four imo.

Oh I'll agree there. Winning the Big 10 Tournament would be MUCH harder than going to the final four.

Going to the final four would consist of winning 1 maybe 2 games that could be compared to upper echelon big 10 teams.

Winning the Big 10 tournament would require you to beat likely the best team in the nation, and another top 5 win.

I'm certainly relieved that is decided. (Sarcasm Alert)

You don't think so?

There is a pretty good shot the B1G ends the season with 7 top 25 teams.

Michigan, Ohio State, Indiana, Michigan State, Minnesota, Illinois are all ranked now and I wouldn't be surprised if Wisconsin clawed their way back into that group before things are done. That's a majority of the conference being among the 25 best.

You only need 4 wins to get to a Final Four, half the conference needs the same number to win the B1G.

And the Big Ten would own the top 3 teams in both polls. I wonder if that has ever happened before.

I would guess it hasn't, been trying to find answers but its a tough question to research. I'll go through the historical rankings to see if its happened before...or OSU can just beat Duke and Elias will tell us.

I kind of doubt it has happened as well, but my guess is it would be the Big East that has done it if it has happened.

IF YOU WIN THA ESS EEE CCC ITS HARDER THAN WINNING THE TITLE PAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWLLLLLLLLLL

Sample size....
in an 18 game schedule it is really tough for the gophers to be a top 4 team in the big ten when there are a bunch of very good teams in the conference.
In the NCAA tournament you have to win 4 games to make the final 4, and likely only 1-2 of them would be upsets.

If you change the question from top 4 to top 3...I would say it is easier for this years gopher team to make the final 4 than finish in the top 3 of the Big Ten.
