"The Gophers will begin practice two weeks from today feeling very good about their offensive line. Ed Olson has graduated, after splitting left-tackle duties with freshman All-American Ben Lauer, and right guard Caleb Bak had to retire because of concussion issues. But a ton of experience returns, along with some talented underclassmen.

Right now, here's my projection for the starting offensive line:

LT Ben Lauer 6-9, 315, 4 career starts

LG Zac Epping 6-2, 318, 34 career starts

C Tommy Olson 6-4, 306, 13 career starts

RG Josh Campion 6-5, 315, 26 career starts

RT Jonah Pirsig 6-9, 320, 0 career starts"

Lauer isn't 6-9, but I can't argue with the rest of it. I am interested to see who else works into the rotation.

If Christenson and Bobek are healthy and TO can beat them straight up, that is quite an accomplishment.
Christenson did a very good job at center before he got hurt.

Here is the depth chart from 2011.

First Team
LT Ed Olson (SO)
LG Chris Bunders (SR)
C Ryan Wynn (SR)
RG Ryan Orton (SR)
RT Jimmy Gjere (rFr)

2nd Team
LT Marek Lenkiewicz (rFr)
LG Tommy Olson (Fr)
C Zach Mottla (SO)
RG Zac Epping (rFr)
RT Sean Ferguson (rFr)

Note that there are 5 freshmen on the two deeps. They didn't get there because they really beat anyone out. They were simply "penciled in".

If I have this correct

Lauer (R Soph)
Epping (5th year Senior)
Olson (Senior)
Campion (R Junior)
Pirsig (R Soph)

That's how a D1 offensive line is supposed to look on paper.

yes, except Campion went to prep school for a year so he is as old as a 5th year guy.

Two big bookend tackles with length on the outside along with three nasty SOB's in the middle. And our depth is very good as well.
