From what I understood, this is incorrect.Iverson tried to muscle Sullinger, once smacking him with an elbow that sent Sullinger to the floor
It's all about Chip, not Tubby. Chip has said in the past that it was "stressful" playing the point guard. HE has to feel comfortable. If he doesn't wanna play the point, no sense in Tubby trying to force him. I'm sure he'd accept doing it to help the team, but he has to find a way to feel comfortable within himself to do it. That being said, I think he can do it and would do an adequate job.
I think Tubby more or less said yesterday in the post game that Chip was a defensive liability. Personally, I don't think that outweighs what he can bring offensively to the table.
Hollins got a shot, Chip is next.
I'm watching most all of our players be defensive liabilities from time to time.
and he is fearless on the offensive end.
There was a point in the second half...when Chip kind of took over the game...he even waived Hoff off when Hoff came for the ball...then Chip took his guy to the rack...missed the shot but got to the line.
I think we need to stop thinking of who is playing point gaurd and start to think about it as who ever has the ball is the point for this play...free Hoff up some and keep Hollins and Chip from feeling overly pressured.
Chip made some good decisions in transition yesterday by pulling the ball back out...which is an improvement from just a few games ago...
Regardless, we have to play guys that can and will score.
Has anyone else noticed one glaring problem with the idea of Chip at PG?....he cannot handle the ball. He is great attacking the rim, but has terrible handles and often gets a head of himself and loses the ball. I counted 3-4 times yesterday alone where he lost control of the ball while dribbling (a few in the open court too).
I think some people are confusing the ability to drive to the hoop, with the skill to handle the ball and bring it up versus pressure. You can still have HOff bring it up, chip run out and get the ball on the wing and start the offense from there.
I think if tubby went with the young guns they would grow.
I would play hoff, chip, hollins, with trevor and sampson. I don't think Tubby has the guts to not start Rodney though.
Tubby obviously understands that Williams has incredible upside. Unfortunately it's almost all upside and very little production. Yesterday it became obvious to me that Williams is simply petrified of making mistakes. When the game was out of hand and it was junk time - all of the sudden he is driving to the hoop on every possession. He can do it- he just doesn't. Somehow Tubby has not been able to communicate the right balance of making plays and yet securing the ball to this group. It seems we have a lot more guys trying not to fail than trying to succeed. Unfortunately this leads to just as many turnovers as you get with aggressive play.
