Was the best player on the field Saturday. Didn't see that game until last night and I'm amazed there aren't more threads on the actual game. Probably just got lost in the coaching stuff.

I'm pretty fired up about next year after watching this game. Both our O-line and D-line won their respective battles. Haven't seen that in a while. Got lots of reasons for optimism going into next season.

We'll really miss Hoese, but hopefully someone can step into that role. Maybe we won't use a FB.

Good point. It appeared to me that the D-Line was getting better penetration than during any other game I had see this year. With the right coaching staff in place we will have a better year next year.

I'll be curious to see how many of our red-shirt O Line kids will play significant roles next year as well. Has anyone heard how Gjere has been doing in the weight room or in practice?

Edwards was absolutely dominating Ferentz Jr. all day. I was hoping i'd see more of that this season but it's a great sign for the future.

The Iowa radio guys agreed with you. They kept mentioning him and Kirksey all game long.

Couldn't say anything specifically about Gjere but it sounds like these were the freshman who won awards at the team banquet: for Outstanding First-Year Players were offensive lineman Ed Olson (offense) and defensive end Matt Garin (defense). The Scout Team Players of the Year were freshman defensive end Cameron Botticelli (defense), freshman running back Lamonte Edwards (offense) and freshman defensive end Ben Perry (special teams). source

We will really miss Collado's tackling as well. He came up huge Sat.

No doubt, kid played a good game.

I only mentioned Hoese just because I didn't know if we had anyone on our roster who could step in and play at Jon's level.

We'll definitely miss Theret and Collado right away. Hopefully our safety play is fine by the end of the year. Liked what I saw from Manuel in brief glimpses. I've gotta assume Cooper plays SS next year, unless it's a completely different scheme next year. Get him away from the line of scrimmage.

Now if we can only get some plus play from our D-ends, I think we may be alright. Jacobs looks to be a player there.

That's the best game our OL and DL has played all year, maybe even the past few years.

Edwards ended the season with 11 tackles for loss. Brown and Small combined for 8.5 last year in 13 games.

It is funny the way one's perception can change when re-watching the game. It probably has something to do with the shell shocked "waiting for the other shoe to drop" mentality I have developed as I wait for bad things to happen when watching Gopher football.

But, upon further review... it was a solid game that was (dare I say) won by the better team. The game was won up front on both sides of the ball and the results just flowed from there. Edwards was a big part of that.

It was fun to watch it on DVR and take in the way guys on defense were making plays... Collado, Stoudermire, Edwards, etc. etc. It seemed light years away from those early season defensive disasters against South Dakota and Northern Illinois.
