"There has been a lot of talk about how bad the SEC is this year, and I'm among those who believes it is bad. But just how bad is it? Leagues prove their worth out of conference, not in conference. The SEC's nonconference RPI, currently .5391, is the worst by a major conference in my 16 years of tracking the RPI, edging out the .5395 posted by the Big 12 in 1999.
"I realize the formula was different back then -- the home/road weightings weren't in place, but you still get the idea. This isn't just a bad year for the league, it's historically bad."
