Rivals.com recruiting expert Jerry Meyer said there might be reasons why the Gophers have failed to land some of the elite point guards they have sought.

"Tubby's style is not known as a point guard-type style; it's more of a power offense and low-post attack," Meyer said. "That might be part of it. I don't associate Minnesota as having a history of top point guards."

Not sure who was PG in Tulsa (20 years ago). Lou Dawkins maybe. Can't remember.

GG Smith (Saul's brother) was back-up PG in 1996 at Georgia then starting PG in 1997-98-99.

Saul was back-up PG in 1998 and 99 then starting PG in 2000 and 01. He ranks among UK all-time leaders in Steals and Assists.

JP Blevins was back-up PG in 1999-2000-01-02.

Cliff Hawkins was back-up PG in 2001 then starting PG in 2002-03-04. He ranks even higher among UK all-time leaders in Steals and Assists.

Brandon Stockton (KY Mr B-ball in 2002) was capable back-up PG in 2003-04-05-06 but only 5-9.

Rajon Rondo was starting PG in 2005 and 06. His 2 year totals in Steals and Assists are the highest in UK all-time history.

Ramel Bradley was back-up PG in 2005 and 06 then starting PG in 2007. He ranks among UK all-time leaders as well.

Al Nolen has been a very good PG for Tubby at Minnesota but he was recruited by Tubby's predecessor.

FOT, your list just backs up what Meyer said. Not impressive.

Looks can be deceiving... When Al Nolen was healthy...this team look pretty darned good.. lots of good looks inside and Blake very involved. No Al Nolen and it kind of falls apart.. I think most would agree that Al is a pure point guard.. good defense, gets other involved..etc. So, at least this year, Tubby's team is certainly a team that has a point guard as the focal point. Maybe its not a team where the point guard scores 20 points a game.. but a true point guard is certainly needed.

Rajon Rondo is arguably the best PG in the NBA (I'd personally put him about 5th) and is the starter on an NBA championship caliber team. He is definitely Tubby's "pride and joy" PG recruit.

rondo is in no way less than 3rd. he is probably the 2nd best threat for a triple double on any night behind lebron. ill give you deron williams, and derrick rose as better

I'd take Chris Paul over Rondo every day of the week. I think Rondo is probably Top 5, but it's pretty tight, with Nash or Parker rounding out the Top 5-6. I'd probably put Rondo at maybe 4, likely 5, maybe even 6.

1) Derrick Rose
2) Chris Paul
3) Steve Nash
4) Derron Williams
5) Rajon Rondo

Tony Parker and Russell Westbrook would round out my list.

Something all of these other PG's have? A jump shot. Rondo is easily (and not even close) the best defender, but a lot of his assist numbers are inflated because of who he plays with. I like Rondo, the only Celtic I can actually cheer for (well, and Ray Allen) but I would take any of my 4 above him in a second. I may put him above Derron eventually, as I am really not that high on him overall.

His inability to even hit a mid range jumper, and especially a free throw, move him down on my list. Those are things you'd like your PG to have, especially the #1 or #2 PG.

Jerry Meyer? Is this the same Jerry Meyer who never passed the ball while playing at UMD 15 years ago?
