It helps recruiting. It helps sell the University of Minnesota. It helps facility fundraising. It helps boost team and fan morale when everyone wants to take pictures with the Little Brown Jug.

"More time you see Minnesota on TV, the better it is," Kill said, "certainly on the big stage."

But Kill said he wasn't "stupid" enough to think that his team suddenly had it all figured out after beating Michigan for the first time since 2005 -- no matter how special it was..

Kill feels encouraged moving forward because quarterback Mitch Leidner is getting healthier and gaining confidence back -- and the team is playing well despite so many inexperienced players seeing the field due to injuries.

"But (Williams) and Mitch were critical pieces of yesterday for us being able to be successful," Kill said. "I know Mitch has his critics but they still don't understand that the kid is young. He also played well in the Big House last year. It was a good game for him to gain confidence."..

After starting the game completing 3 of 8 passes, Leidner connected on four straight balls during Minnesota's first scoring drive in the first half, capped with his 10-yard touchdown run to make it 7-7.

Leidner also converted a couple of third downs in the first half to set up a go-ahead field goal to take a 10-7 halftime lead.

He ended the game completing 11 of his last 14 passes for 155 yards and a touchdown to Williams.

"We did some good things throwing the football," Kill said. "And actually, Mitch was on target with every throw he made. If you go back in the game, everything he threw he was on target.
If that guy don't tip the ball on the slant, (Isaac Fruechte) goes the distance."

Many excellent points, especially the ones I observed. I saw ML misread several plays early this year, while he seemed to have a better handle on things Saturday...against a defense that was highly ranked. Bodes well if we can get him and some others healthy and keep them that way.
