Jeff Horton

Does footballscoop.com just vomit names and put them on the web? That's what I gather.

I would be willing to be that we have someone hired today.

I actually hope this one is true. He really did well with marginal talents like Brooks Bollinger, Jim Sorgi and John Stocco. Man this would be good get.

Brewster is with his guy at Manny's as we speak.

What I like about Horton is that he also learned from Scott Linehan who is a terrific offensive mind.

Being serious? If you are how do you know? Sitting across from his table? I'm being completely serious here.

The resume:

1984: Minnesota grad assistant
1990-1991: Nevada WR coach
1992: UNLV WR coach
1993: Nevada head coach (7-4)
1994-1998: UNLV head coach (13-44)
1999-2005: QB coach @ Wisconsin
2006-2008: Offensive assistant (w/ play calling assistance) and assistant o-line coach w/ St. Louis Rams
2009-2010: QB coach w/ Lions

I like the head coaching experience, even though it was mostly craptacular after UNLV moved to the MWC, and if all else fails, he probably knows the best strip joints in Vegas.

Quarterbacks coach for the Wisconsin Badgers. The quarterbacks during his tenure (Jim Sorgi, Brooks Bollinger, and John Stocco), rank 1st, 2nd, and 4th in Badgers history in passing yards.

I actually walked over there to see and he wasn't there. However I just glanced quickly into the dining room.

He was a candidate last year as well. Does anyone recall if he interviewed and /or was offered the job?

Don't forget Charlie Sanders is still in the Lions org. so he will get an inside look from his view.

Tweet from Tom Dienhart:

"I was just told that Detroit Lions QB coach Jeff Horton will be the Minnesota offensive coordinator."

Go Gophers!!

Why do I get the feeling it will be someone that no one has heard of?

Lions QB Coach Jeff Horton Heads to Minnesota
Detroit Lions quarterbacks Jeff Horton has left the team to accept the offensive coordinator position at the University of Minnesota.

Horton fills a position vacated by Jedd Hirsch, who left the Gophers to coach the quarterbacks as part of Pete Carroll's coaching staff with the Seattle Seahawks.

Horton had spent one season with the Lions, after three years as an offensive assistant/offensive line coach with the St. Louis Rams. Prior to that, Horton coached quarterbacks for the University of Wisconsin.

The guy has prior HC experience as well as a few years in the Big 10 and NFL. I don't know much of anything bout him but i'll take it.

Head coaching: UNLV
Following the 1993 season, Horton accepted the head coaching position at in-state rival UNLV, a move commonly referred to as the "Red Defection" by Wolf Pack fans. His first season, 1994, the Rebels won the Big West title and the Las Vegas Bowl, winning Horton that conference's Coach of the Year award.

Four years later, he was fired after the Rebels finished 0-11 in the 1998 season.

[edit] Assistant coach: Wisconsin
After being fired, he was hired as the Quarterbacks coach for the Wisconsin Badgers. The quarterbacks during his tenure (Jim Sorgi, Brooks Bollinger, and John Stocco), rank 1st, 2nd, and 4th in Badgers history in passing yards.
