-Coach Horton mentioned that he had already done the press conference with Sid Hartman, and that anyone who wanted to know anything should talk to him, drawing laughter

-Said that Joe Paterno had a hard time figuring out which Minnesota coach was the head coach, and so Horton approached him and introduced himself. He added that Coach Paterno said it was a difficult situation, and to tell everyone to keep their heads up high and fight through it

-Said he was very disappointed in the loss, and that the Gophers did not do enough to win on Saturday, and won't win until they do enough

-The two biggest areas the team needs to work on are tackling and and finishing drives. Mentioned that they had 84 plays, but needs more big plays if you're going to win

-Horton then said it was nice to be "moving into the easy part of our schedule," in jest.

-Compared going into a game with Ohio State to being a surgeon, and that you have to have the confidence that you can do the job, even though the odds are stacked against them

-Said that as long as the game doesn't get canceled for some reason, the Gophers have a chance

-Mentioned they are backing off on the physicality in practice to save themselves for the games

-Said that Terrell Pryor is probably one of the top two dual threat quarterbacks in the country

-Depth Chart changes include Jon Hoese, who is doubtful for the game; Dom Alford will play more at left tackle with Ed Olson fighting a bad ankle. Ed Cotton will start at fullback.

-The team will probably practice all week inside with the poor weather conditions

-Said it was a great opportunity to show the country what this team is all about on national television

-Mentioned that it's up to the coaches to make sure the team doesn't get caught up in the luster and ranking of a team like Ohio State, and that they need to play their game and be aggressive

-Jon Hoese is a big part of the offensive and special teams, and he's going to be a player that will be missed, adding that it's someone's job to step up

-When asked about whether Gray will be used more now that Weber has surpassed 10,000 yards, Horton replied that he will use Gray the entire game at wide receiver

-Horton mentioned that he believed the team played with heart despite the mounting losses

-Mentioned that he hoped with the Halloween weekend that maybe some people will show up wearing Ohio State uniforms, but then added that it's going to be Ohio State on the field

-Said that Thomas Hammock did a great job calling the plays for his first week on the job, and that hopefully the second week will breed a little more consistency

-Said that McKnight has turned into "a human highlight film" the last few weeks, and that he's really growing as a receiver

-Also added that Gray had a nice game at receiver as well last week, and that having multiple receivers that can catch the ball allows the team to attack both sides of the field

-When asked why they would want to attack against Ohio State, as opposed to USC, which they were more conservative for, he said that it was a little different situation, and that the match-ups are different than they were

-On the comment that Jim Tressel has seen Adam Weber in his sleep this week, and whether coach Horton has seen Pryor in his sleep, he said that Adam Weber is a special player, regardless of wins and losses, and to get to 10,000 yards and do what only four others have done in Big Ten history is pretty special. On Pryor, he's always been impressed by his ability to come back from bad games like he did last week, and that the team will get Ohio State's best effort on Saturday

-Said that Ra'Shede Hageman has been re-instated by the team for this week's game

- Mentioned they are backing off on the physicality in practice to save themselves for the games.

I found this to be the most interesting comment. Also it seemed a bit contradictory to working to shore up tackling. Would anyone with coaching experience care to comment?

Tackling needs to be addressed earlier in the season and in camp especially, my bet is they have alot of defensive guys beat up, kinda strange we don't get an injury update on some of these guys.
Carter was down on the field for awhile, went back in, Edwards was gimpy at the end of the game, Rallis has been in and out. Gotta think some of it is mental too, beat the H physcially out of this team now and you may see the morale and energy drop even further, get them healthier, maybe they come out with some pop and surprise OSU for awhile.

Silly. So when we're down by 60, Weber is going to stay in the game?

He should be pulled to keep him from getting injured. We'll need him healtht later in the year. Would suck if he got hurt in garbage time when the game is out of hand.

HAHAHA, I hope I missed the sarcasm in this.

alright...either horton is brewster 2.0 or 2 head coaches seriously think weber is better than gray, and preparing for next year is absolutely dumb...i guess that's why i'm not head coach

Preparing for next year is dumb as a coach, when you won't be here next year. I would guess that Weber is quite good in practice, but the speed, ability to get hit, and pressure of a game situation greatly affect his ability to be as good on Saturdays as he is in practice. That isn't a knock on him it just makes him normal.

I think Horton's point is that the Gophers are better with:

Weber QB, Gray WR, McKnight WR, Allen WR

than they are with:

Gray QB, McKnight WR, Allen WR, Carpenter WR, Weber bench

And, I see his point.

Gray must have slept with both Brewster's and Horton's wives to get this sort of treatment. They should be looking to get both Gray and Alipate work at QB. Horton's staff is barely any different with the exception of the hurry-up offense they inserted and used for two drives. This is truley the low in Gopher Football in the past 40 years. Sometimes I wish it was November 28th. I know I will be nursing a hangover from celebrating the end of this nightmare regime.

Actually he plans on playing Gray at QB after the first series. Kind of like playing possum. Ohio State will be focussing on Weber all week; won't they be surprised?

Or.......It could be that during practice he plays against Minnesota's defense and during games he play's against Division 1 defenses.

Backing off the physicality of practice as the season wears on is very typical of coaches. Quite frankly as one gets into week 8, 9, and so on the players have done a ton of hitting since the start of camp. It is usually very much mental at this point. One can still work on tackling without being overly physical. There are plenty of drills that work on all of the fundamentals without bringing guys to the ground.

Big effing deal. Its not like its going to matter at this point. Its time to get Gray some reps at QB so he can show the incoming coach (whoever that will be) what he can do, or for that matter potential transfer schools. I wouldn't blame the kid at this point.

Amen brother! I stongly agree.

Yeah seriously, you think the difference is really going to change the results of the game? Lets get some quality reps in.

God you guys are idiots. No coach is going to concede the season, no matter how many losses they have, by playing their 2nd stringers. NO COACH would do that. This isn't Madden or NCAA Football, and there are real people underneath those uniforms, many of whom who sacrificed blood, sweat and tears.

This is why you are fans and they are coaches. Shut up about it already.

Hey Formo or moron whatever your name is. Were not saying start Gray, but get him reps genius! And its not conceding when Weber can't the job done anyway! Ya Adam has done all he could for this team but by keeping him in when OU is up 35-10 isn't doing anyone justice. I'm sure you were the pro-brewster type as well and your ok with losing and not looking forward to the future. Hell, Horton should hire your dumb a.s.s. and keep his streak going to 0-18 plus more. Sorry for going off but stop the madness cause Weber is a good guy, we know that. But its time to change things up even if Weber is the practice heisman front runner!!!!!!!

You're way off base, sir. Don't you think it would give the morale of the entire TEAM a huge shot in the arm to sit a 5th year senior who's been elected captain an unprecedented three times?

I'm sure the troops would rally with a rousing performance.

Too many here don't know that. You do, many don't. The ones who don't think he is the devil and isn't playing up to their expectations due to spite. These are the same people who think everything is an attack on them personally. Those people are the morons, not Formo.

I agree with you as well by the way. If we are getting blown-out, we should see someone else get some reps at qb.

It is so obvious that many posters never played football above the high school level. You do not conceed any games, much less a season, out of respect for your seniors that have commited 4 or 5 years to your program. They deserve to be given the best chance to win every Saturday.

Now people are going to say 'no, they don't deserve anything, they have gotten a scholarship, yada yada yada'. Further proof of how clueless they are about college athletics.

The last Coach got fired because he was an idiot...and I see why Horton had a terrible record as a HC...
