Jeff Goodman on Brad Stevens: "They need to put him in the HOF. Now."

I was in college for a year at Depauw with Brad Stevens. He is a genuinely good dude, from what I remember. Very nice and cordial, driven guy. Definitely someone to cheer for.

Why not elect him President of the USA while we're at it. I'm curious how this Butler team will do once Matt Howard has moved on. That guy does everything for that team

Just what they said about Gordon Hayward from last year. I'm not going to be counting against Brad after this run.

That team had Matt Howard. They never would have made it to the final without him last year either. You underlined the wrong words from my post. That guy does everything for that team. Too bad he shaved the porn stash though

I don't really get the point, shickmyjanski. . .there's great college players leaving/using their eligibility up all the time. If Butler never gets back to another Final Four, it doesn't diminish these two years and yes, Matt Howard makes Stevens look like a pretty good coach, but so does Shelvin Mack; no doubt that Butler's not here without either of those two or would have made it nearly as far as last season. But isn't Stevens also the guy who recruited these two and helped develop their talents?

Maybe when he's older...

Butler minus Matt Howard is a far better team than UCONN minus Kemba Walker.

UCONN minus Jim Calhoun is a far better team than Butler minus Brad Stevens.

Not so fast. His team is pathetic tonight. This is the worst championship game I have seen in a long, long time. There's 5:49 left in the game and Butler may not crack 40 points.

Ummmm ok. I don't know what Walker and Calhoun have to do with anything. I was talking about Howard and Stevens. As for your argument I think you might be right but it's tough to compare PG's to PF"s. Both players are very valuable to their teams. Walker is considered a top player in College hoops this year. Your second comparison is tricky for me. Is it your opinion that Brad Stevens is a better coach then Jim Calhoun?

Yes, that is my point, although admittedly that is partially because I respect Stevens and the "Butler Way" far more than I respect Calhoun and the UCONN way.

As to what my point has to do with anything, Calhoun is in the HOF. Also, as to your original point, I have no idea why having good players means you are less of a coach. As others have alluded to, it is to your credit.

Not so fast, my friend. While tonight was ugly, particularly the second half, it was just two years ago that North Carolina ran out to a 36-13 lead on Michigan St, had a lead of 22 points at halftime and won going away. At least Butler gave us a half tonight-pretty ugly, but they kept it competitive.

Wouldn't it be funny if Calhoun retired and Stevens took over for him. Then maybe 20 years form now we can talk HOF. That's all I'm trying to say.
