3- Jerry Kill, Minnesota

Kill is a blue-collar coaching success story, working his way up from Saginaw Valley State (1994-98) to Emporia State (1999-2000) to Southern Illinois (2001-07) to Northern Illinois (2008-10) and currently to his current position with the Golden Gophers. Kill has Minnesota heading in the right direction, guiding the Gophers to a bowl game in his second season in Minneapolis, despite having some health concerns (he had seizures on the sidelines and missed some games). Given the challenges of the Minnesota job, the health concerns dominating the talk around the program last season and the fact that despite all that he has the Gophers in a bowl, means this guy can really, really coach. He’s good friends with TCU coach Gary Patterson and that’s not a surprise. You can see that with the way Kill’s teams play (Minnesota plays TCU this season in Fort Worth FWIW). Kill has a 144-94 overall record as a head football coach.
