Stolen from Marcus. Sorry if already posted.
Bilas watched Minnesota's 114-47 exhibition opening win over Minnesota-Duluth. Obviously, the competition wasn't great, but he was impressed witih the depth that Gophers coach Tubby Smith has. And that's without suspended players Trevor Mbakwe, Royce White and Devron Bostick.
"They've got versatility," he said. "They can play a lot of different people. They can switch up defenses. I was really impressed with their young kids. Rodney Williams has a chance to be really good. Just in the game I saw, I thought Ralph Sampson did a nice job. I was impressed with Devoe Joseph. I really like their team makeup. I think they have a chance to be very good."
Another player who grabbed Bilas' attention was freshman point guard Justin Cobbs. Bilas played in the 1980s against Cobbs' high school, Bishop Montgomery in Torrance, Calif.
"I really thought he did a good job when I saw him," said Bilas, who was a top 50 recruit at Rollings High School before going to Duke.
