-- Trevor Mbakwe had a terrific debut for Minnesota in its win over Siena. Mbakwe scored 10 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and has two steals in 35 minutes. I first saw Mbakwe when he was a freshman at Marquette under Tom Crean, and I remember how big and solidly built he was, and just how big his hands were. Mbakwe has huge mitts, and he will be a really good player under Tubby Smith. Minnesota played without Devoe Joseph, but with the depth and size of the Gophers, it didn't really matter against Siena. Minnesota will be an NCAA tournament team again this season.

A day old but lots more here-

Why am I not surprised that Seth Greenberg described playing at Campbell as "tough" while defending his usually pathetic nonconference schedules?

Anyways, it looks like Greenberg finally got the message (the Hokies' schedule is solid this season). If your team has a habit of landing on the bubble, you best have played a decent nonconference schedule or the selection committee isn't going to give you the benefit of the doubt.

Ironically, VT probably would have made a 68-team field 2 of the last 3 years, don't you think?

Better put Bilas on the list of people you can't take seriously at all.

No doubt. Until moments ago, I thought he was the best color-guy on TV. I used to wish CBS would convince ESPN to let him be paired with Nance on the #1 crew. Now that I know he makes such ridiculous errors, I will disregard him from now on. I know he's got a Duke education, but that makes it all the more unacceptable. Thank goodness DPdoll is always on the look-out. I'd never have noticed it otherwise. Dick Vitale is now #1.

LOL @ the over reaction to Jay Bilas' comments. At least he has noticed the Gophers. Saying Dukie Vitale is the best commentator is a joke. Bilas is a very good analyst both in the studio and in the booth. I can't believe people are completely writing him off because of this one little slip up.

Concur. Bilas is one of the best. I'll forgive him the minor slip. It's the exception, not the rule, for him. He's one Dukie I actually kinda' like.

This. He's about as good as it gets. He loves the ACC (for obvious reasons) but his analysis is pretty solid.

I might be wrong but I took the comments as a joke and more of a poke at dpodoll68 than at Bilas.

Gus Johnson and Bilas would be a pretty good combo for the final four.

Nantz sucks for college bball. Far too dry.

Nice to get a little national pub leading up to the season. No matter how off their facts are. Think how far the program has come in the past 3 years.

I think Bilas is one of the top analysts in NCAA basketball, if not the best. Even though he's a Dukie, you can't argue that the guy doesn't know his stuff...he's about as sharp as they come.

Darn, I was hoping dboy would add some intelligent arguments to this thread...Oh wait!!!
