Jason King: Very Early Top 25 for 2013-14

Pretty ridiculous to have Iowa ahead of Wisconsin and Michigan at this point.

So happy Tubby and his recruiting prowess has left for texas. The powers of the B1G have reloaded.........

Have decided that from today forward until Bucky finishes lower than 4th under Bo, I'll project them in the B1G top 4 no matter what personnel they lose and/or what other squads lose/gain.

Iowa just pulled what we did last year - advanced to the NIT finals and got thumped. Same as we did, I expect them to come out of the gate strong next year.

I expect the Hawkeyes to be very good next season, certainly top half of the B1G, at worst. McCafffery has them on a nice, steady trajectory.

In a list I saw, Texas Tech was receiving votes. They will be ranked 24 by November 20, 2013. Then up to 20 by early December. I see another predicted ranking list that has the Red Raiders at 14 for Jan 1, 2014. That media source has them slipping back to 23 by the third week in January. The only prediction I can find that goes into March has them unranked and a low seed in the Big 12 tournament.

...and finish tied for 7th and essentially the 9th best team after tie breakers. :D

LOL nice

Don't get me wrong, I think Iowa has a nice team, and definitely deserves consideration for that 25th spot, I just think it's a little early to project them top 4 ahead of the National Champ runner up and perennial contender in UW.

The difference is that Tubby won't have to play his conference games in the big ten any more.

That's what Tubby does. Look at the past seasonal flops w/ the U. Starts a season with promise and then majorly under performs the last half of the B1G schedule.

Actually they finished in 6th place by themselves.

Team returns 90+% of their production including every starter off a 25 win season that started a True freshmen at the 1 and 5. Iowa had no business not making the tourney last year but had issues closing out games which ultimately led to them not. Look at their season in depth last season and take a gander at some of the losses they had. Had about 5-6 losses in conference against some good teams that happened due to their inexperience and inability to close out a game they led in late.

Then you add in that they bring in 2 Iowa Mr Basketballs and a 6'10 RS in addition to the team they return. They could end up being very good next year.

The wildcard for them is Peter Jok, the lone incoming freshmen. Yes hes only rated a 3 star but he could be a difference maker. Iowa shot very poorly last year but was a very good rebounding team and had a knack for getting to the line. Jok was a 93% FT shooter and a 43% 3 point shooter as a HS senior. Hes also a 6'6 Point Wing whose biggest knock was if he would return from a devastating knee injury. 3-4 years ago he was in the discussion with Jabari Parker as the best recruit in the 2013 class. He tore it up his senior season in the same league that has just recently produced Doug McDermott and Harrison Barnes.

Not really hard to see why they are getting some love.
