For the second straight year Jared Weyler has been placed on the Rimington Trophy preseason watch list. The award is presented annually to the player who is considered to be the best center in college football.

Weyler is one of only two seniors on the Gophers offensive line. He has played both guard and center for the Gophers during his career with 16 total games played. As a junior in 2016, he played in 10 games, but missed the final three games on the season with an injury. Last season, he started six games at center, but also missed six (including the final three of the season) with an injury.

Last season, Weyler helped protect for an offense that rushed for 2,189 yards and 20 touchdowns and passed for 1,513 yards and nine scores. The offensive line allowed only 22 sacks and 62 tackles for loss.

The Dayton, Ohio native is also a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

Minnesota’s lone Rimington Trophy winner was Greg Eslinger, who won the award in 2005.

Go Gophers!!

He wasn't a junior in 2016. It's weird that they'd post such a glaring error (and still have it up now, 24 hours later).
