-- Are we starting to see why Bruce Pearl really retired? Did he want to ensure son Steven got the first crack at the Auburn job when he otherwise may not have? The Tigers have played a difficult schedule to date -- currently #4 overall in strength of schedule -- but nevertheless the results have been underwhelming. The Tigers are 2-6 combined vs. Quad 1/Quad 2 opponents and were non-competitive in losses to Michigan (72-102), Arizona (68-97), and Purdue (60-88).
-- After struggling during non-conference play, Memphis (7-7 overall), Minnesota (10-5), San Diego State (10-4), and Texas A&M (12-3) are among teams finding their sea legs early in conference play. The Tigers are 2-0 in the American, the Gophers 3-1 in the Big Ten, the Aztecs 4-0 in the Mountain West, and the Aggies 2-0 in the SEC. However, all four at-large resumes still need a lot of work.
-- Woof. A really bad loss Tuesday night for LSU at home vs. South Carolina, one you'd prefer to avoid when you're hanging out around the bubble.
-- Michigan finally showed it is mortal. The undefeated #1 Wolverines survived a last-second three-point attempt by Penn State to survive 74-72 in Sleepy Valley (Bryce Jordan Center). That said, all road wins remain gold.
