Dribbles & Scribbles
-- Saturday was pure craziness in the Summit League. Upstart North Dakota over perennial league power South Dakota State. Kansas City picks up its first Division I win at injury-depleted defending Summit champion Omaha. Co-league favorite North Dakota State needs two overtimes in Fargo to hold off Oral Roberts. What's up is down & what's down is up. More proof that every single night in college basketball is survive and advance.

-- Somehow the Minnesota Gophers are 2-1 in the Big Ten after last night's road win vs. Northwestern. They’re short-handed (three guys played 40 minutes) with two starters out for the season (PG Chansey Willis Jr., F Robert Vaihola), but every player is improving under new head coach Niko Medved. Case in point redshirt freshman Grayson Grove, who went full Beast Mode with 12 points on 6-of-6 FG shooting (all dunks), most on cuts to the basket. What a refreshing change watching the Gophers move and share the ball & cut to the basket (like the school across the river has been doing for years) after years of watching Gopher guards pound the ball into the ground before taking a terrible shot at the end of the shot clock. Medved for governor of Minnesota!

-- Defending national champion Florida, 76-74 losers to a pedestrian Missouri squad, is finding out elite guards are difficult to replace. Walter Clayton Jr. and Alijah Martin aren't walking through that door.

-- I decided to go to bed with San Diego State routing Boise State 50-29 at halftime in a "Mountain West After Dark' snoozer. Bad decision. The Broncos came storming back to force overtime, eventually succumbing to the host Aztecs in the third OT, 110-107.

-- Biggest single win Saturday in terms of improving a team's chances to make the NCAA Tournament? SMU handling North Carolina in Dallas. The ACC is leaps and bounds better than it's been the last two seasons.

Deep Thoughts, by Buzz Studley
I'm calling bull (poop) on Darryn Peterson and his family for what's going on at Kansas. You're either all in or you're not.

Peterson needs to move on and go prepare for his NBA career in an empty gym instead of stringing along his coaches and teammates. This "playing when you deem fit" nonsense is for the birds. The Jayhawks need to ride out the season with Melvin Council Jr. & company, guys that actually want to play ball. Looking over your shoulders to see if your "me" teammate wants to play ain't it.
