Too bad it didn't work but North Dakota just had good back to back seasons. Hope he does well up there and Good Luck to him.

Good luck to him. He looked great in Spring, just stuck behind a great crop of RBs. Could be iffy he starts there, but should at least get some carries.

Not surprised he's leaving, but a little surprised he's going to UND and not NDSU.

Good luck to him.

Never touched field

He looked like the kind of runner NDSU sprang successfully on us more than once. Given injuries, players turning pro, I'd hoped he would stay.

It's too bad for us. He seemed like a guy who could eventually contribute. I can't say that I blame him being behind a couple really good SO's and a good JR.

Good luck to him.

He wants to carry the ball, so this had to happen. We are in good shape at RB ahead of him.

Good luck James. Take it out on NDSU next year.

Not a surprise giving the Gophers depth at RB. I suspect that he fares quite well at UND. Best of luck to him.

He just wanted to be a Fighting Hawk! (I have a good friend who is an absolute UND hockey fanatic. He will not even mention the Fighting Hawks - still wears his Fighting Sioux Gear everywhere - and everyone gives him crap about it.)

I was super excited when we landed him. I was hoping we could convert him to a LB or TE if he didn't make it at running back. Bummer ...

I thought it was interesting that he never saw time on special teams.
Best of luck to JJ.

I don't think he was interested in switching positions

I kind of question of successful he'd be at those positions too. The supposed knock on him was an unwillingness or inability to block, I don't think TE makes a ton of sense, and LB seems like a pretty drastically different skill set from RB.

I would guess that many on here played high school or college football. If you were one of the best players on a medium to small school you were on the field on every single play. I know he was from a big school in ND but I have no doubt he could have switch to a defensive position. However, like a number mentioned ... he would have to have been willing to make the switch.

Agreed. I was shocked he wasn't covering kicks or anything this year. Looked like a good athlete...too bad it didn't work out.

If he doesn't play special teams and has never seen the field it's really not a loss. No special teams would lead me to believe he isn't very physical or can't block very well. He still has 3 RB's ahead of him next year.

These are all personal decisions and likely with coaches input. I hope he starts and gets some good run at UND.

Yep. Agree. Hope everything works out for him but the writing was on the wall with our RB depth. Seems to me it is strictly about getting playing time.

He's a little fish in a big pond. But, he'll be a big fish in a small pond.

The best of luck to him.

He may thrive and end up in the NFL. You never know. You've got people like Carson Wentz, Ben Roethlisberger, Jerry Rice, Adam Thelen, and I am sure there are many others who hailed from small schools and ended up playing on Sundays.

Yeah, I have no doubt he would have been a fantastic HS LBer. I just doubt he would be a decent Big 10 LBer.

Initially that was a big red flag to me. Then again, Carlton Djam didn't play special teams at all (at least from what I saw), and was apparently ahead of JJ in the depth chart.

While unfortunate, I can't imagine he would have seen any meaningful playing time at the U for years, if ever. As others have stated, you never know, he may be the next gotcha player that makes it big. But even if he does, it doesn't mean it's the wrong decision for JJ or the U.

JFC had also passed him. So he was the 5th option. They also have London coming in so I'm sure he saw the hand writing on the wall. Hope the young man does well at N. Dak.
