Legendary actor James Earl Jones, best known for his innumerable movie roles and the booming voice of the character of Darth Vader in the "Star Wars" franchise, has died, his representative confirmed to ABC News.

first time I remember seeing JEJ is in a movie titled "The Great White Hope," based on the life of heavyweight boxer Jack Johnson. it began as a Broadway play with Jones starring as Johnson, and was adapted for a movie version that came out in 1970. Jones was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar, but lost out that year to George C. Scott in Patton. Jane Alexander, who played his white wife, was also nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress.

of his many roles, I really liked him as the CIA director in the Jack Ryan movies with Alec Baldwin and then Harrison Ford. He just gave his characters that quiet dignity. also have to mention that his movie debut was in "Dr. Strangelove" as a member of the flight crew on Slim Pickens' bomber.
