I've never been excited about Edsall as our next coach....

but after watching UConn vs Pitt I wouldn't be too pissed anymore. His team has some tough SOBs on it, seems like they have been getting better all year as indicated by recent wins vs Pitt and WV which is also a nice trait and something we are not use too around here. That being said there are still a handful of other guys on my list.

He's been my #1 "realistic" choice all along. If we can't get Harbaugh or Patterson or Belotti, then Edsall is the guy I'd like to see on our sidelines.

His stock is rising. Nice audition!

Ballsy going for it on 4th down. It was nice to see a well executed game plan, and a team that doesn't take stupid penalties. Then again, outcoaching Dave Wannstadt isn't exactly like climbing Mt. Everest

My only concern was watching a team having a RB go off for over 200 yds and almost losing due to porous D at times. That gave me Mason flashbacks. Maybe that's why Edsall went for it on 4th down on their own 20. Mason never had the cajones to do that. How they lost to SCum back in September is a headscratcher, though.

Ha ha. I just came to the board to ask if anybody just saw Randy Edsall pull off a reverse Mason.

Probably blindsided by Denard Robinson. They didn't exactly have a whole bunch of tape on the dude going into the season.

I don't see it

Why? What? He is 17 and 26 in the big East. He has been at U Conn 12 years. He has had one good season in 12 years and another nice one and a bunch of sub 500 teams?

Now somehow he is going to step up to the Big Ten and transform himself into Tressell or Ferentz or even Glen Mason? If you score 10 points a game on the JV basketball team and they move you to the varsity...you don't now score 20ppg...you gotta struggle to avg 5ppg. Same thing he'd flounder.

Please let's not get too enamored with a coach every time they win a game. You can find great points or faults with any coach.

Take Chris Petersen.

Last year while undefeated late in the season and still alive for the national championship, Boise found itself in a tough road test. Holding a slim 2 point lead midway through the fourth quarter against a solid team in Louisiana Tech, Boise St. scored a TD to increase its lead from 2 to 8. In a decision that reeked of Les Miles Epic Fail Status, Petersen decided to GO FOR 2!!!!

WTF!!!!

Have you ever seen a 2-pt. coversion chart, Chris??? Better yet, forget the chart. It doesn't take a football genius (or even a football idiot) to figure out that you need to send the kicker out on the field. If I were an assistant coach I would have quickly removed my clothing and ran on to the field just in the hopes of stopping this ridiculous decision from actually taking place. As blind luck would have it, they converted the unnecessary 2 and ended up winning by 10.

Anyway, look it up if you don't believe me. The point is, even the best perceived coaches out there are capable of making a ridiculously bad decision. In the same vein, lets also not fall in love with Edsall just because his team converted a gutsy 4th and 1 play.

Sucks.

if that's the case and he's hired they're toast against the Badgers as their coach is an expert with that fancy chart.

I think going for it is an easier decision when your defense is horrible.

Good point, but how much film of meechigan do you need to watch to figure out that their defense is blowful? Our opponents seemed to know that coming into their games with us.

Well, based on the close to 50 years of Gopher football incompetence (especially on the defensive side of the ball), opponents always gameplan assuming the gophers are going to be terrible and MN rarely disappoints. They got Denarded but the Michigan defense held them to 10 points so I am going to vote for Big East football is terrible (I think the gophs would have 3 or 4 conference wins) for half the reason they got curb stomped in the big house
