It's Weber's fault that the Gophers aren't going to San Antonio

So, I'm still ticked about the Alamo Bowl kicking the Gophers in their giant choppers for the 4th time. I took the liberty of emailing the Alamo Bowl president and expressing my displeasure. He pawned me off onto one of his underlings, who proceeded to give me this excuse as to why the Gophers were passed over yet again:

Mr. PlayHosea:

A lot of our team selection choices are not just focused on one team but rather than match-up. This year our committee was excited to match-up the top passing offenses from both conferences in game that many are predicting to have 60+ points being scored in front of a capacity crowd. Please know that the committee does give weight to off-the-field activities such as suspended players and possible coaching changes as well as items like fan travel and local interest.

It's either Weber's fault or the Alamo Bowl had inside knowledge that Brewster was going to throw his hat in the ring for the Kansas job.

What a crock. There would have been 60+ points scored in the game if the Gophers were there too. And that's with Weber or any of us GopherHolers starting at QB.

True, but I don't think they wanted a 50-10 game to achieve those 60 points

Yeah...so you're not big on sarcasm, eh?

Truthfully, Texas Tech will crush Sparty as bad as they would have crushed the Gophers. At least Sparty has the potential to put some points on the board, but I think 50-10 is still within the realm of possibility.

If I'm not mistaken didn't Michigan State just have 9 players suspended? If that's the case, WHY did they pick MSU?

I think the point he was getting at was the Spartans are still better than the Gophers despite their suspended players.

Overall, MSU had a better season, and they deserve the spot over us. However, if we had been more competitive in the last few games, particularly on offense, I think we would've gotten the bid. If we beat Illinois, we have a 4-4 B10 record, with a head to head win over MSU, and the same overall record with a stronger SOS. Or, even if we had shown up offensively against SDSU, that would've completely changed the perception of our team. If we had scored 30+ points, then we would've had 30 or more points in three of our last four contests, and had a defense that held Iowa in check all game. And then on top of that, you would have the MSU suspensions. Oh well, this bowl game is much more winnable, and may be better for our national perception instead of getting torn apart by TT.

Based on my correspondence with him, I have my doubts that they'd have taken a 7-5 Gopher team. FYI-not sure it's clear cut that MSU had a better season. They're 6-6, just like the Gophers. They beat 1 team who's in a bowl (NW), the Gophers beat 3, including head-to-head over MSU.

True enough, but MSU lost all of their games by 8 points or less except for Penn State. Among common opponents, they only lost to Iowa by 2, but didn't play a couple of our stronger opponents, like Cal and tOSU. You can certainly make an argument either way. Their Sagarin rating is a few spots higher than ours, but they have a huge advantage in their predictor rating, which I figure is the more accurate number. I perceived their season to be better than ours, and that coupled with an advantage in Big Ten and our poor traveling fan base, it would be very difficult for a committee to skip them over for us in a bowl game.

don't worry, MSU being in their bowl will be the kick to the crotch that they deserve.

I have no issues with MSU. I hope they represent the Big Ten well and bring home a W.

What a loser you are! Is this really necessary? What is the purpose of this...to call out a kid trying his best? And what a complete zero you are for actually e-mailing them...get a life dude!

offense

Offense sells football games. They don't want a team that offensively was shut down for a good part of the season. Given the choice I would have taken Mich. State as well. If you truly think that is the case then Weber did us a favor. A team has to be able to slow Texas Tech down and then match them point for point. I don't think we could do that. We are much better off playing Iowa State and having a chance for a win which I don't think we would have against TT.

I'm a loser and I know it. Thanks for taking me down a few pegs. How clever you are, choosing a moniker based off of a deviant sex act. You're the funny guy in the office, aren't you? I bet you wear #69 on your softball team.

I chose the moniker because the Gophers are going to shower their fans in victories..but way to take it the deviant sex act way. Way to call out Weber and blame it all on him. Yes, you ARE a loser for putting it all on him but ESPECIALLY for actually sending an e-mail to the Alamo Bowl committee to whine! Alamo Bowl..Insight Bowl....who give a frogs fat a$$??

The Humanitarian Bowl would've had us but they were offended by the play of Cupito.

Truth be told....

It's the gopher fans or to be more specific lack of fan support that will always push the gophers to lower bowl games. You can't blame the bowl reps. Who wants a half empty stadium on national TV?

The fact is gopher fans don't travel well.

Excellent point that goes largely ignored in these parts. On one of the ISU message boards there is a thread imploring fans to purchase tickets through the university. They've already sold 5k.

They travel better than Spartan fans.

True. The year the Alamo passed us over for the Spartans, MSU made a big presentation to the Alamo Bowl officials and guaranteed they'd buy a large number of tickets. If I remember correctly, MSU ended up eating a large number of tickets and didn't have that many fans in the seats. That sure didn't help the merchants of Austin.
