It's too bad Patrick Patterson didn't follow Tubby to Minnesota

I was just reading that Patrick's mother was visibly shaken and in tears after the Kentucky-Georgia game last night and she had a meeting with the AD after the game. She's very upset that Kentucky won't make the NCAA tournament.

The sad thing is that the Patterson family, especially the mom, LOVED Tubby. She said she was very upset at UK when Tubby left. I know that she's probably thinking in the back of her mind that maybe Patrick would've been better off following Tubby to Minnesota. Tubby had offered both Patterson and Jai Lucas schollies to Minnesota when he left.

And that makes me think of what if...? If Patterson had come to Minnesota, he'd easily been B10 POY and instead of bubble talk, we'd be arguing about whether we should get a 2 or 3 seed! We certainly would've been in the hunt for the B10 title this year too. We'd have no more then 3 or 4 losses...period. That's how much a hoss he is in the paint. I really think we could've had a Final Four type squad...if!?

Patterson wanted to attend school close to his Huntington WV home.

If Patrick Patterson can't shoot three pointers or run a half court offense, we still would have had ups and downs this season.

No buddy, our half court offense would've been Pat. Trust me, Tubby would make sure the ball got into him. I don't think you've seen him play. He would cover up a lot of half court inefficiencies.

To borrow a phrase from Bill Simmons, Patterson is a homeless man's Chris Webber. I really like the aggressive, physical game he plays. Of course I didn't see the South Carolina butt kicking.

Have you seen us try to feed the post?

Three-pointer shooting is just the tip of the iceberg. If DJ, RSIII or PC could make wide open 12-15 footers, the Gopher offense would be hugely better.

Having a beast in the paint like Patterson would leave our guards open much more for the 3. He would draw the attention of the defense instead of Hoff, Devoe, and Westbrook. Just one player like that would make all the difference in the world.

A lot of folks are unhappy right now. Jodie is worn out, Ramon and Porter are still getting way too much clock, little to no development of players like Liggins, Galloway, Harrelson and Stewart and signs that Gillispie is cracking under the pressure to go with six losses at home and the general mailaise that has fallen over this team leave people questioning everything at this point.

Coach Smith had 15 losses at home over his ten years and Coach Gillispie is almost halfway to matching that two years in. Coach Smith let the program slide somewhat with his recruiting/player development but this is as bad as I can remember it being since the Sutton years and we were dealing with a major scandal at that time. It's been a joy to watch Meeks and Patterson try to put a team on their backs but both are just flat out wore down at this point and the coaching has been atrocious to mediocre in SEC play.

Tubby had 19 L at home over 10 years.

He did NOT let UK slide in recruiting OR player development. He had 2 sub-par records in 2006 and 2007.

UK signed #1 class in 2004. #1 JuCo in 2005. Top 15 class in 2006. And was primed to sign Patterson and Jai Lucas, both McDonalds A-A, in 2007.

Player development. Morris to NBA in 2007. Rondo to NBA in 2006. Hayes and Azubuike to NBA in 2005. Daniels and Fitch to NBA in 2004.

If KY fans want to rip Tubby for recruiting, I can understand that. I can't, however, understand ripping him for player development.

He did have several guys get better and less-heralded (but four-year) guys improve and go to the NBA.

They can't rip him for recruiting, either.

In my line of work (health care industry) I've encountered some stubborn, obtuse people. None could ever compare to FoT. When his wife asks what he wants for dinner I'm almost certain he lists the things he had for lunch 23 years ago with a grim facade-utterly convinced that context means nothing.

You must not work with anyone who deals in FACTS.

How 'bout that Billy Gillispie?

Now that right there - that was funny. And spot on.

What is your beef with FOT anyways? FOT provides timely and relevant information that adds great value to this board.

Your post is ridiculous! The facts FOT cited were from 2004 to 2007, not 23 years ago. Quit being such a *****

FOT Has Very Good Information

Hey, I think FOT has some great posts. He has a point of view....he loves Tubby. That's just fine with me because I love Tubby too.

There are some posters here who are disasters with no facts and all emotion. You want to go after someone, go after those guys. You can figure out who they are.

Re: Mom in Tears...meeting with AD.

Can't think of a better reason we wouldn't want him.

Sounds like another Kris Humphries fiasco.

I deffer to Benjamin Disraeli ( or Twain depending on your source of choice) on the subject of statistics.

Context. Numbers without context are just numbers. You can manipulate data to get the result or conclusion you want. If there's any real truth that has come out of this financial crisis I would think it'd be that.

I've illustrated (to much consternation from Gopher fans..which I totally understand and am sorry for) the truth behind his "numbers' and "facts" countless times but his reponse has always been, when countered, it's not Tubby's fault or blame the Kentucky fans/the AD/Gregg Doyle or some other nonsense.

You guy's have a great coach, an even better man and I wish the Gophers all the success in the world. That will never change the reality of what happened at Kentucky (both good and bad) and how Coach Smith's own mistakes played a role in his departure. I wish like hell he'd been willing to make the changes we all wanted in terms of staff and recruiting and that got over the hump again in just one of those chances he had to get to another Final Four and cement his legacy at Kentucky but he didn't and it is what it is.

Clearly Tubby met UK standards (except 1, FF). Clearly Gillispie hasn't (this far).

When you post factual stuff, I have no comments. When you post Anti-Tubby BS, I counter with facts.

Your choice.

Correction, 2 areas where he failed to meet UK standards. He was born with the 2nd factor.
