according to our first opponent's website " The Blue Raiders will begin fall practice on August 6th, with the season opener September 2nd at home against Big Ten contender Minnesota. Kickoff is set for 6:30 pm. Reserved tickets remain on sale at the MT ticket office (615-898-2103).

Maybe it is a typo. Perhaps they meant to say "competitor" or "member" and it just came out "contender".
 

Maybe it means we are a contender to win that particular game, and we come from the Big Ten.
 



It seems like they always put words like contender in there to make the matchup sound more interesting
 

Ha. And what would the Gopher release say if they were coming here? 'Tremendous, 10-win, BCS-challenger MTSU...'

uhm, i think if you take it at face value a contender - one who conteds. I.E. bigten contender: one who contends in the big ten..

We are undefeated so far this year and will be for some time!

Funny you should mention- this is what most of the gopher publications are labeling MTSU as...


"Not to be cliche, but the first game of the year at Middle Tennessee St. could be a dog fight for the Gophers.


1) It's a Thursday night game, which are always tricky to prepare for.
2) It's against an opponent that won 10 games in 2009 and returns one of the most electrifying offensive talents in the country, QB Dwight Dasher.:rolleyes:
3) This Gopher defense is arguably as talented, fast and athletic as any I've seen in over a decade, but they're young and will need to come together fast to stop an explosive MTSU offense. 4) MTSU was a deceptively good defense team in 2009 and returns most of their starters on D. "


Not sure what's funnier... MTSU calling the Gophers a contender, or the Gophers calling MTSU an "electrifying and explosive offensive talent"

Sounds like an early excuse should they happen to lose to the lowly blue raiders...

OK regdab. clever moniker there. you sconies are so pathetic. you claim having god's gift to college football programs and yet you find it impossible not to get all up in minnesota's business. do you know how many accounts i have started at buckyville? none. i was thinking about starting one under the moniker rehpog, but i realized i would triple the number or registered posters doing that.

i think that the gophers have a good shot at losing at MTSU, but i am not very interested in what the pre-season rags have to say about the match-up (nor am i interested in what the strangely gopher-obsessed badger fans have to say about it).
 

MTSU was a pretty good team last year. They have a dangerous QB, and our D has a lot of unknowns. Heck, our O has a lot of unknowns. No one will know anything until the game is played.
