Word has been the university has there mystery man. Golden was linked as the final 4, and has been real quiet the whole time to combine with a very media stingy search firm. His team is 8-4 and are waiting to find out what bowl they will be in. The fact they went 5-3 in the conference will hold them back, and the fact Temple fans don't travel well, will reeeally hold them back. Temple is working on an extension/raise right now and the current situation (his best season) is creating a stall in negotiations. Out of respect for the university (joepa guy) he is giving them time to put together a legit offer, but it will fall short. He will tell them is heart is in the big ten, and the money is too much to turn down. It has to be someone who wouldn't bolt on his team at this point, and Golden would fit the bill. All the sudden the U has all these social media and such to announce the hire, because they have an idea of who they want. Maturi talked to Golden, heard interest, talked to the boosters, heard interest, and now he went to talk to him first hand. Hoke used Maturi to create leverage in a raise from SDSU. There is no way he would say "I hope so" when asked if he would coach the bowl game, let alone admit he talked to Maturi in the first place. His track record would dictate he is sleazy enough to pull that off. They will hire Golden after his bowl game, which will be earlier in the schedule compared to other games. Maturi knows this, and has asked Horton to try and retain the recruits since it will be a wait. Maturi then gives Horton under the table money for his effort.
The only other way is if Mullen is waiting to see if Miss. St. will receive sanctions, but Maturi would never hire him after that right?

The U may or may not have their man, but the problems are in everyone trying to reason out who it is...

Not Golden

Golden seems very unlikely to me because of his buyout number at around $2 million and his (supposed?) interest in Penn St. I'll bet his contract even has an out for Penn St.

If the stories and tidbits are true it points to Chris Petersen. (However, unlikely that seems.)

The same booster who allowed Maturi to use the jet will be one of the few to help pay the buyout.

Golden's deal was redone before the season with a 4 year extension that more than doubled his salary (Est. $1.2 Mil) and added a buy out of $2 mil until Dec 1. 2011 and then reduces each year after. Golden will not be leaving Temple before next year. While Temple doesn't ever publicly address this stuff (private school), I have a source in the Pres office that said Golden hasn't been directly contacted by anyone (agent has) and hasn't met with any representatives from any school. I called after the flight to nowhere yesterday and confirmed from my source (who laughed hysterically about the whole thing) and confirmed that nothing has changed with Golden.

He wont be our new head coach.

That's not a problem, it's a good sign. It shows people are interested. If no one was interested enough to try to figure out who it is, that would be a MAJOR problem.

I quit drinking in the 1980s before Michelob Golden was introduced, but I hear it's a good beer. As a result, I don't know if it has to be Golden, but I think beer drinkers throughout the state wouldn't mind if it were.

I'm almost certain Maturi doesn't have a guy and he probably won't hire one. He just enjoys watching us squirm!

No, it does not have to be Golden...

...and won't be.

Under the table money from Maturi? I didn't realize Maturi had money under the table that he could give out.

one word for you: microbrew

Hoke sleazy? Not sure where you got that - along with all of your other information. Despite rumors, there is no factual information that we are interested in Golden, were interested in Golden, contacted him or interviewed him. Plus, I don't see us waiting until after Temple's bowl game to make a move. Not saying it won't be Golden, just that there's no hint of smoke there right now.

?

Are you sure you're really being told the truth? After all, apparently someone told you that Temple is a private school.

You are correct dpo...my apologies...what I meant was Temple isn't a state school or land grant school and doesn't have the same sunshine requirements about contracts and salaries and negotiations...so they don't have to comment on anything they don't want to.

savegopherfootball knows Golden is a very real possibility or they wouldn't have talked to the AD

I'm going to win folks.

sabotagegopherfootball is like Helen Keller in a cave.

I hate to be Buzz Killington, but Helen Keller would probably have done better than most of us in a cave. Her inability to see would be nuetralized by the lack of any light.

:D You might be right. My point still stands about sabotagegopherfootball not having a clue about what's going on.
