That our Athletic Director is refusing to fire our football coach because it will cost them $200,000 less after Dec. 1st. Everything is done on the cheap, expect the next coach to be no different. We are gopher fans and we are all used to it!

I don't know that the cost is the reason. Maybe so. There isn't much to be gained by firing him now. When do the top coaching candidates usually get hired? If its before 12/1 then that would be a problem.

I believe this was a misstatement by MV last week. At some point later, I think he said it would be $200M regardless of when he's canned.

In short, there is no financial justification for keeping him around until the end of the year.

If the coaching search wasn't already underway, it is now. When he is fired matters less than who is replacing him.

the problem is that nobody (read-nobody worth having) is avail until after the season....we could fire him now, sure, but the benefits of doing that don't really outweigh the costs......the season is lost either way...keep most of the recruits, etc

Thanks MBA guy

I was unaware it was an incorrect statement, although it makes me feel a little worse. Brewster is a horrible coach and the entire state of MN knows it. At this point he may hurting our program more than helping it.

My only hope is that so much damage hasn't been done by this staff that things can't be turned around by the next coach. I wasn't a huge Mason fan but we have gotten worse not better.

Not sure how that would be possible. New coach will coach the talent better...and bring his people in and hopefully recruit better.

This is right.

Football coaches rarely, if ever, get fired mid-season. Who would coach? It is ridiculous that some think it is money. Money has nothing to do with it.

Firing the coach now only leads to total disarray. Let the players have some continuity for six more games. It doesn't help us to fire him now.

Disagree. See Bleed's post from a few weeks ago regrading the firing of Monson. It eliminated the poisonous atmosphere of the program and, at the least, let the fans/boosters know that a change was absolutely coming for the next season.

Look, barring a miracle, we're going to lose all the rest of our games. We can do that with Brewster or without him. I, for one, would like to end his tenure now and take some comfort in knowing we'll be off to a fresh start next year.

From a planning perspective

Now is actually better. You can begin the search and we would announce the coming change, put the transition team in place, and begin the active search. This would also include informing recruits of our intentions and bringing them on board. First, if they are coming here for the coach, then, they can't be that bright. They are coming here for the school. As for the existing team, what can be worse than a losing season with only one victory? Nothing. I think they would be grateful that we are putting more than just faith in our future. Faith in something is fine. It just isn't sufficient over the long term to actually make change. Change is what we require, not faith. Third, as for the fan base, there will be none next year with this coach. So, losing $200K is nothing compared to the tickets, refreshments, gear, and parking that is so attractive to fans that come to the games. A thousand fans pays for the 200K easily. Lose that and more with Brewster continuing to be at the helm. Lastly, I think we should keep Brewster. His talent is not coaching, it is community relations. This team needs to keep connecting to the state and to the alumni. I think he has a certain flair for the dramatic and the team needs to be seen by more the the TCF faithful. Let the coaching search begin.

Fire Brewster immediately. Let Gray and Alipate alternate series or quarters or halves or games, whatever. Just get them in there. That at least stops all the negative energy and allows the fan base to look toward a better tomorrow. At this point, short of a Brewster firing, why bother? There's nothing to look forward to, and people will (have already begun) check out. The longer Brewster stays, the more the impossible becomes possible - that moron Maturi will somehow keep Brewster. If Brewster is retained, the program will suffer huge season ticket losses and the program recedes further into the abyss.
