They put up 41 points in beating Butler 41-24. They made it to the 2 round of the their divisional
playoffs two years ago. I believe 5-7 last year

Absolutely no way a MAC team could ever beat a B1G team.

I didn't know Butler had football.

Butler has "club football" I believe = No football scholarships...

The Sycamores are (1) bad at defending the run and (2) they don't have a good RB on the roster. Their fans are already settling in on 7 wins being optimistic - and just getting out of the Minnesota game with a paycheck and no injuries. Expect 250+ yards rushing by the Gophers and turnover city from the Sycamores. They've got a good fun fanbase, but this is not the Sycamores from two years ago.

They have non-scholarship football, but it isn't a club team. Varsity teams can't play club teams. They play in the Pioneer League, which is non-scholarship Division I, like the Ivy League...but the Ivy League is a much higher caliber on the whole.

So one could presume college game day will not be there.

Not going to make this into a Mason vs. Kill/Claeys thing but man I miss the days when we didn't have to sweat the creampuffs on the schedule. There was little to doubt that when a creampuff rolled in they were going to get blown out.

Mason did lose to Hawaii, Ohio, and Toledo in his first 4 years. If Claeys lasts 10 years I doubt we'll be worrying about the creampuffs.

Are people honestly worried about losing to Indiana St.? I'm not.

I checked and it says they're in the Missouri Valley Conference ... so nope.

Crap. The MAC is where good teams go to play football.

Do you mean like in '06 when NDSU held us to under 100 yards rushing? (They outgained us 380-249.) Do you mean when we had to block a field goal as time expired to win 10-9? Ohhhh, the good ol' days.

Kill lost to New Mexico State. NDSU would roll over New Mexico State. If the Gophers don't blitz Indiana State boys and girls it will be a long season. This staff has been around 6 years and if you can't take a lower division team to the wood shed you're living on borrowed time.

I try not to count the chickens before they hatch, especially when it comes to Golden Gophers football. However, based on the last few years, I'm not too worried about them beating an FCS squad. Over the last few years, the scores have been:
vs UNH, 44-7
vs West Illinois, 29-12
vs East Illinois, 42-20

Would I be surprised if Gophers start a little slow? Not really. But I figure the team will put some distance between them and Indiana State as the clock goes on.

Why do people keep repeating this nonsense? Stop it. Each game is an individual set of events that has zero input on the outcome of other games. The Gophers could beat Indiana St. 3-2 and finish the season 15-0.

NDSU is not and has not been a creampuff for quite some time. In general during the Mason years the non-conf schedule was packed with creampuffs and they were nearly always dispatched of easily as should be the case when a power 5 squad plays a weak team.

I hope the Gophers choose not to play to the level of competition and put away the Sycamores early so that the backups can have some playing time.

If they don't, we will have a very long season.

I kind of agree with you. However, momentum and confidence definitely play a role. That is immeasurable though.

dpodoll68.....I know you like to play the Devil's advocate, but what are the odds first of all winning 3-2 and second of all going 15-0. Would you like to make a small wager on any of those
two scenarios happening? You're out thinking yourself on this one my good man, but far be it from me not to jump on easy money$$$$$

Indiana State would get beat by all of the MAC teams and we should crush them IMHO. Beating a MAC team would be a big win for Indiana State. Losing to Minnesota in a close game would also be a huge accomplishment for them.

Not correct. You are assuming they are independent events that have no relationship. There is some slight relationship because you are talking about the outcome of events that are impacted upon by human emotions, confidence, etc. Also, each team's game plan is based upon what has happen in past games. How many times have you seen a hot team go on a losing streak once a team has pointed out how to exploit their weakness?
