Watching the MSU-Nebraska game on delay. Did those dumbf**kers just punt from the 31 yard line??? That might be the dumbest play I have ever seen.

And the punt went nearly past the end zone. I just get the vibe that it would be hard to take him seriously for various reasons if you played for him.

He has rabies. Hence the frothing at the mouth.

I seriously wonder if that is a record. Has anyone EVER punted before from the 31 yard line?

I have no idea, but I have to imagine that this game could have been close:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow_Bowl_(1950)

The teams punted 45 times, sometimes on first down, which is highly unusual in football. The strategy was based on the weather in that both teams felt it better to have the ball in the hands of their opponents near the end zone and hope for a fumble of the slippery ball.

Sweet. But as bad as the weather was in that snow bowl they still made a field goal (not that Nebraska should have attempted one). Bet they didn't have a Heisman candidate in the backfield either.

The simple answer is yes.

Wait for it, he's 4th and 19 from the 25 down by 20 and kicks a field goal to get within 17.

Wisconsin Northwestern just today

Wisconsin punted from the 31 and NW punted from like the 33...both into the end zone.

The last time I called someone "retarded" in this forum, I was reprimanded. lol

I guess I don't see what the big deal is. It was 4th and 11 so it wasn't very likely they would get the first down if they go for it. It was rainy and slick outside, kicking a field goal from that distance is risky. The one thing I'd question him is not taking a delay of game penalty to give his punter more room, but MSU may have just declined it anyways.

Uh, how about going for it?? You are risking almost nothing (it was an 11 yard punt) to keep the ball deep in your opponent's territory. If you don't want to pass it then hand it off to your Heisman candidate and see what he can do with it. What, MSU gets it on the 29 instead of the 20? Heck, lob it downfield, what's the worse that could happen? An interception? A fumble? Either way MSU gets the ball. And there is just as much risk getting the punt blocked or run back as an interception return.

I'm pretty sure the punter was not trying to punt it into the end zone. If they down it at the 3 yard line most everyone thinks he made a good call to punt.

I thought it was odd how Bo went for the two point conversion the first time. Had they kicked the two PAT they would have been down by 3 if I remember correctly.

bo pellini didnt make that call it was feaux pellini
That makes sense  .
Watching the game I thought Nebraska was much more dynamic with a healthy Taylor Martinez. Even though Husker fans seemed to despise him, he was really good at times.

Ya, Martinez was a solid QB. I'm not sure why he got so much criticism.

I Agree Mick

And more than all that is the conservative message you send to your team. There is virtually no risk involved in going for it. (There is a lot of risk in punting...get it blocked, snap it over the punters head.)
You give confidence to your to offense that they can do this. In the NW example it was 4th and 3...make it, game over. Wisconsin needed two touchdowns with like 8 minutes to go and the punting advantage was 11 to 15 yards. Nebraska was behind and needed points. If you go for it and fail you are also telling your defense...okay, no problem, I know you'll get a stop or a turnover.

It's like anything else on here...we all have different ideas.
