per Cyclone Fanatic:

It shouldn’t come as a surprise anymore when Matt Campbell and his staff make a roster addition.

They’ve been all over the place adding grad transfers and late committing JUCO players over the last few months.

That continued on Tuesday when AllCyclones.com’s Alex Halsted reported that former Ohio State and Minnesota center Brian Bobek will play his sixth and final year of college football at Iowa State as a walk-on.

Go Gophers!!

I know the guy battled injuries throughout his career but was surprised to read he has another year of eligibility and is using at ISU.

He's not going to be an all-American anywhere, so I don't think it would matter. Not sure if he finished his degree here, but I'm guessing he was a grad transfer.

I'm just the type of person who believes if you were a Gopher then become either a Hawkeye or a Badger, you are forever dead to me. It wouldn't matter if all he ever did was become a practice player and never saw a second of game time. That is completely unacceptable. :pig:

His bio from last year indicates he was either working on or had finished his Master's in Applied Kiniesiology.

I recall him getting his head chewed off by kill in the latter stages of the northwestern game, and I don't believe he played much after that?

Without injuries he wouldn't have came here. Here, injuries had a big part in keeping him off the field here. He got his degree, sounds like he got healthy but wasn't gonna to get much playing time here. Now he's ended-up at ISU.

Good for him. Hope he plays and the Cyclones have a good year.

Oh, and hope they both have their game of the year on September 10th!

Yeah, a lil bit shocked he still had eligibility.. I mean, I thought he was done with college football 2 years ago?

Didn't he have some weird flu or something that delayed his return in addition to injury? I think that is why he was granted a sixth year(?).

Does that mean he is working on his PH.D.?

I was kind of wondering that or a second Masters? Or maybe he had to change his major to one "not offered at the U"? I've never heard of anyone transferring a year after getting a Bachelor degree. I would think once you've established the major and school for your Masters that you'd be set.

Like most on here I'm not really upset about this or anything. Just surprised. I honestly didn't realize he had applied for a transfer. I thought he had either retired or completed his eligibility.

Coaches may have suggested it. I am sure that they meet with all of the players after the season. They may have told him that it would be best for both sides, and they'd help him. No way he beats out the starting center now. Too much future with Moore.

Considering our OL depth problems, I wish he would have used his sixth year as a Gopher. He would not have started here and maybe he thinks he has a shot at starting at ISU.
