And why shouldn't you. Taunt away. Squawkeyes lose, Gophs win - and hoops season started yesterday (which means lots of 'L's piling up for Iowa all winter).

god i live in Iowa and all they say is when are your gophers going to score on us... gets old. So i ask how is there hockey team doing, and lets see how your hoops are this season. I get that silent, deer in the headlights look. so it's fun. I never like to play the history card but i do once and while they don't have much to say.. then it's all about the 2nd coming of christ ( AKA Ricky Stanzi) how awesome he is blah, blah. Anyways it was fun to root for NW yesterday. Didn't get much for replies back from text's i sent out.
 

There was a guy sitting in the Gopher section yesterday wearing an Illinois shirt and an Iowa winter cap. He was DRUNK (no surprise) and running his mouth the whole game, so plenty of "Who Hates Iowa?" chants were started. Felt good rubbing in our victory and the Pigeyes loss after the game.
 


It was pretty funny at Tiffany's in Highland Park yesterday. When that last ball of Stanzi's fell incomplete, the hawkeye fans practically in unison got up and stormed out.

I guess that was the first time Gopher fans this year. At least you guys are not in last place anymore! Congrats!

They say "score on us"? I scored plenty on.... never mind, my wife just walked in the room.

Thanks PapaHawk, I know from going to Iowa City last year that many Iowa fans are classy people. The people in IC were very hospitable to my group.

The confused fan in the Iowa hat and Illinois shirt was right in front of me for almost the whole game though and was talking smack almost the entire time. I normally don't root against other teams (except Wisconsin), but on Saturday it felt good to know that his day was ruined in a span of about five minutes.

SDSU beating the Hawks yesterday in hoops at Iowa City. It looked like the arena was not even half full. Your take?

I agree with that, just getting my shots in when I can. Not very often that they lose and we win in the same week.

I covered the game for the student radio station down here in Iowa City. The announced attendance was 11,700 but that figure is not accurate. My best guess would be around 8K. In another thread, someone argued it was 2-3k but it was more than that. Either way, pathetic attendance and a disappointing game for Hawk fans. It still amazes me that in 2005-2006, Iowa won the Big10 tournament and was a #3 seed in the NCAA tournament. Lickliter destroyed the program and it is going to take McCaffery many years to return this program to mediocrity. That being said, good luck against the football bye week...some teams lose to the bye week ;)
