This is far too nice of things for a real Hawkeye Fan to be saying. I'm keeping any eye of the the backhand that must be coming.

The opinions of the fanbases on all Big Ten boards seem similar. In fact, the only negative responses I've seen have been from Minnesota fans convinced that Maturi was going to produce Knute Rockne's brain in a robot body.
 



Speaking of hating Iowa. I was wearing a Minnesota windsuit while I was home for Christmas break last year and I was at a gas station and what do I see, someone decked out in Iowa gear. The tension between us could be cut with a knife
 

They're worried, and they should be! A resurrected Minnesota program is a direct threat to Iowa AND Wisconsin. :cool:
 


Do some of you consider it strange that other Big Ten programs and fans are complimenting the hire, while in reading some comments here and on the Star-Tribune I see overwhelming disdain for it? I genuinely like this hire. He's a great COACH, which is what you need.

Sort of. The negative reaction here was more Maturi and expectation based then it was anti-Kill.

Well that's Minnesota. It's been somewhat ingrained in us as Gophers fans to expect the absolute worst at all times, because that's usually what we've gotten.
 

People do seem to be warming up to the Kill hire the more they find out about him. The media thus far seems somewhat lazy, essentially asking "Jerry WHO?", when it's their job to find out information and bring it to the public. They seem to have made a lot out of the initial negative reaction to his hire, let's see if they mention at all that people are being won over. The newspaper comment sections are going to remain quite negative until we can shut them up on the field, they are overrun with smack talkers.

It seems like gopherholers in general are getting over the "shock" of the hire. Most expected a bigger name. But it also seems that most are warming up to the hire and I think that will continue as the days and weeks go by.

As for the star tribune, their website is always infested with trolls and "fans" who don't really follow the program very closely.
 


I'm still pissed about the hire but I'm warming up to him. I liked him in the presser but I guess for me it comes down to if he can recruit despite being a small name. It's kinda like meeting your blind date, you are super pissed your friend didn't give you the hot single blonde from class but after saying hi she seems pretty cool.

As dumb as it sounds I think his physical appearance is an unconscious reason why people, including me, initially scoffed at the hire. His record is puts him at or above Golden and Hoke but for some reason he was viewed as lower on the totem pole.
