handled in a cloak and dagger way. Other schools in the B1G will also have to be totally tuned in to a new code of ethics in how they handle player and department issues. The slap of the hand and the "You've been a bad boy we need to set you in a corner for an hour" discipline that in the past has been handed down by likes of Barry A, ( The so called "Emperor" on the Badger boards) the rat in a can, ( BB ) and Iowa's beloved " Captain Kirk " is now a thing of the past. It will be interesting to see how the player incidents that came forth at Michigan and Michigan State on the heels of the Penn State debacle will be handled

What ever happened with the Chadima case?

While it would be ideal for big-time college football to clean up its act, don't hold your breath.

You know, whoever uses the Penn State issue as a reason to crack down on players is missing the point. The university, and the coaches are at fault for that. What they do should have a closer look.

Sure, if student-athletes mess up they should be held accountable, but they should get their reasons sorted out.

Penn States terrible problems didn't have anything to do with students being delinquent, it was coaches, and university staff.

The Penn St situation has nothing to do with player conduct. Player incidents will be handled in the same manner as whatever university you want to name are handled now.

No, it will filter down to player and department issues, especially in the B1G. I would suggest you re-listen to Delany's message.

While Iowa has had a lot of player issues I do think the university and the staff run a tight ship. Coker has not been accused of a crime and where is he...gone. Robinson, gone. I could go on and on, the obvious point is every school has their far share of "issues" to deal with and like everything in life runs in cycles. I think many teams in the B1G run a decent program and its not just about football, its student athletes who at a young age make some poor choices. Most coaches do have the their kids best interest at heart and it isnt always popular. I do disagree with the original poster of this thread, these guys are not typically hiding behind anything. It is what it is at this point and their will be eyes looking closer at everything everywhere. Right or Wrong.

I know I may get some heat for this, but I actually agree with MspHawk. It's one thing for a program to have players get into trouble. It's another for those players to get away with it with very little punishment. For the most part, the guys who have gotten in trouble at Iowa were no longer on the team afterwards.

True, but that doesn't necessarily mean there's not a crackdown coming. I think ruppert is dead on with his post.

You mean how Trevor Mbakwe was "disciplined" after being arrested (again) for violating a restraining order. Funny how the next game happened to be at home vs. a Top-10 team so Tubby and Maturi let it slide - I'm still bitter about that loss

In all seriousness, I realize this is the football forum and Mbakwe's actions meant no harm, but don't pretend the Gopher football and b-ball programs are such a model for good citizenship and the Gopher coaches are the only ones who follow through with their word on discipline. Every school has issues and each incident seem to be handled differently. Purdue has had a rough summer with football players being freakin' idiots. It happens everywhere.

By the way - who's your RB now? Seriously....I would lock the rest of your RB's up in a room before they're all arrested.

Selective reading on your part Boiler. I said everybody would be accountable in the B1G. Read the original post before you comment.

House arrest for Iowa RBs may deem sufficient to keep them out of trouble.
I don't think our program is much cleaner than the others. But being in a big media market, we have less leeway with everything. As NW is private school, they can fend off some of the scrutinies from media in Chicago. I'm always scared of taking moral high horse because of basketball scandal. Never say never, right?

The thing is that I don't think we as Gopher fans ever get the same level of detail as some of the fans of say IA or WI when something happens. We see a headline and maybe a short national story on it and start making assumptions. I think the Mbakwe example was a perfect example of this. As Gopher fans, we all know the details of the story, and we know it was poor judgment but probably didn't deserve a suspension. But if as a Hawkeye or Badger fan you only saw the headline "Mbakwe arrested for violating restraining order" without all the details, you would think MN lets their kids get away with serious crimes and no punishment.

Wasn't BB as a ass't coach the personal coverup guy for Booker Stanley?

Booker was arrested for assaulting his girlfriend in December of 2005, suspended for that season's Outback Bowl against Auburn and kicked off the team by Bielema in February. He was convicted in July, though some of the charges were later vacated. Does that count as a cover-up?

D-bag, you called out 2 schools that in your mind have done it in the past and he just pointed out the same crap goes on here.

Booker was a problem child from day one. Wisconsin finally gave him enough rope to hang himself.
You have a selective memory.

Im pretty sure due to hippa schools are required to be cloak and dagger to a certain degree.

Booker had some lesser incidents before this one, but to insinuate that Bielema served as his cover-up agent when the facts suggest the exact opposite is just par for the course for you.
