No football also means no marching band at the games.

The University of Minnesota's band director Betsy McCann said there are 320 students in band and 25% of them are on scholarship.

McCann said, "It is a big deal, obviously it affects a huge part of what we do as a marching band."

However, because the band is within the college of liberal arts, it won't lose funding.

The upside is that the band won't lose funding during a once-in-a-generation pandemic? I guess I'd still rather have us under the AD. Better to lose funding once every 100 years than be underfunded 99 times every 100 years, IMHO.

I know that's not what you meant -- joking poking a little fun.

Haha, totally! Hopefully this doesn't cause issues for other hands who are used to being funded.

The marching band is great and all but I would rather they have their budget slashed than the football team's.. It must cost quite a bit for all those uniforms, instruments, ladders, and wands...

Wands? It's called a baton, bro. We're not wizards. The band uses the same uniforms & instruments for decades. How many uniform combos does the team go through in a season? Drop in the bucket.

Yeah that's exactly what a wizard would say to a muggle....

The band doesn't get new ladders, or new uniforms, or new instruments on a yearly basis.

Because of what little budget they have, the band reuses everything year after year until they can't anymore. When the band got new uniforms that was 100% fundraiser money that was used, none of their yearly budget.

And on top of that, the band doesn't need new stuff every year because they take care of it. The previous uniforms lasted 25 years!

Maybe spend some time to actually learn about the band before the next time you make a claim like this.

Another person speaking out loud to everyone without knowing the facts.

The marching band is ahead of its time. For years I've seen them using social distancing during their performances marching on the field. They've been doing for decades, and now, they get to show everyone else how it's done. Way to go band.

those ladders look pretty nice. I'm willing to bet they get new ones every year. Plus the tuba players keep getting fatter and fatter they have to be spending a fortune on new costumes.

Confirming my suspicions of trolling. No reason to engage
