Some takeaways:

Minnesota was 11th in program revenue in the tournament, and 29th in expenses.

Gonzaga, Memphis, Villanova, and Marquette all spend more on basketball than we do.

Minnesota gets more revenue from basketball than UCLA, Florida, Michigan, and Pittsburgh.

Disgusting that we make so much and spend so little. And after 7 years, no shovel in the ground. I hope that baseball stadium built to play 15 games a couple miles from Target Field is really nice.

#13 most profitable according to Forbes. 5th in the B1G behind Ohio State, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Michigan State

13th MOST VALUABLE - not sure what that means but guessing 13th with Most Revenue.

When you subtract expenses from revenue according to http://www.bizjournals.com/memphis/blog/2013/03/college-basketballs-most-profitable.html

Minnesota is the 6th MOST PROFITABLE program in the country --- And the 2nd most profitable in the B1G behind Ohio St.

Lots of money in College Basketball. Minnesota is no slouch. Whether or not a college basketball coach is worth 2 or 3 million is another question.

This argument gets extremely old. Had you been to the old Siebert Field??? The dome is going away and Target Field would be extremely tough to get every other weekend. At the time the new Vikings stadium was not approved yet. Also the project was funded with 7 million from private donations and 1 million from the school(according to various reports) using the gopher fund. Here is an article http://www.bizjournals.com/twinciti...2012/01/gophers-proceed-baseball-stadium.html. Don't think a lot of the donors for a new baseball field are going to contribute for a new practice facility not the same alumni and donors you are tapping into (see Molitor, Pohlad, and Perkings) and at over twice the cost. I agree this should have been taken care of a long time ago but the previous athletic director didn't make a real effort and we are where we are. I every confidence that Teague is going to get it done. I get the feeling he is willing to sacrifice some important directors cup points to make sure the big sports have what they need.

It seems that the consensus on here is that we don't have the 29th best facilities for basketball in the country. If that's the case, and we have the 29th highest expenses for basketball, what are we spending it on? That seems to be an issue with how we are spending the money rather than our willingness to spend.

Contract extensions by Maturi.

The baseball field John Anderson raised the funds himself for this through donations, and it was long time coming. Don't whine that they are talking from the athletic budget, most if not all of this was covered by the fundraising efforts of John.

Who knows if this will be true in a couple of days...

+1

If we sank another $3 million into coaching salaries and got someone big think of how much more profitable the program could be.

I mean look at Louisville, that kind of revenue for a basketball team is staggering. I know they got a sh**ty situation at the KFC Yum! Center but just the raw revenue/expenditure numbers are mind boggling.

Inconsistent data. These comparisons can't be made at such a simplistic level.
