Interesting Hire

I would guess that Wisty knows this guy from when they were both at Wisconsin.

Akron coach!

I thought for sure that Rob Ianello would be the next Irish coach, but he probably did not even want the stupid job after seeing what Charlie W. went through this season. Anyone agree?

There was no way in hell Notre Dame was going to promote from within, or get anyone without head coaching experience.

Ianello is a proven recruiter. It'll be interesting to see how he does as a head coach in a league that is known for springing big time coaches.

I like this! He was the main contact with MN and Cretin Derham, as I understood. I could be wrong, but that certainly hurts any chances they had at Seantrel I would think.

No one should be intimidated because the person assigned to the task failed. It drives me to try harder and apply myself for success. I hope for your employer that you do the same.

Hey, I thought Browning was going to get the Akron job!

He was the recruiting coordinator when that was an actual position. When the NCAA banned that position he left UW but came back and given a position but really didnt do much coaching. He is an ok recruiter but not really a coach. UW has a guy on staff currently that is in a similar situation(Randall McCray).

The biggest news in this is that he was the recruiter of Beau Allen. In fact last week he called Allen and told him that he and ND still wanted him there and contiuned to pitch him. I cant imagine that this will help out ND's chances with Allen.

You are 100% correct, however, Notre Dame always liked to recruit MN pretty hard even before Ianello (especially Cretin). Ianello wasn't part of the staff when Notre Dame poached MN for Ryan Harris, Trevor Laws and John Carlson in 2003. My point, losing Ianello might hurt them in MN this season, but they always recruit MN pretty well.

Correct, Notre Dave has recruited MN well for over 20 years now.

Wistrcill goes to Akron and his new football coach is a position coach/recruiting coordinator.

At a MAC school, this makes sense. The lower tier conferences is where most guys who want to coach but have zero HC and Coordinator experience go to get that experience.

The University of Minnesota should not be an entry level position. Akron, yeah, that can be an entry level position.
