Meh, anyone watching can see the Gophers aren't close to being good.
Can't wait to rub it into some Drexel fans. "How's the view back there?"Gophs 155 in the first NET Rankings:
Check out the bunch we're clumped with. This is brutal man.

You have to prove season ending injury. You can't just take a medical redshirt. It's not surprising and highlights the risk of playing garbage teams closely.
I don't see how we can dig ourselves out of this, especially given the caliber of ball we've seen displayed thus far.
Mike Mitchell isn't the savior who will move us up 100 spots in the discussion for a tourney bid. He could propel us past St. Thomas, though!
And I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but why would Cochran return this year? It sounds like January is more realistic than December, and by his return, our fate should be all but sealed (and Ben's). Take the redshirt, get paid another year in CBB, and compete for a tourney berth.
Man, this post made me bitter. The scheduling leaves absolutely no margin for error. It's barely December, and it's already hail mary time for Golden Gopher Basketball.

I appreciate the explanation on this. I hope he plays, personally, but I also feel for a guy watching a ship sink, knowing his impact won't be felt until it's too late.Johnny already summed this up
But that's not how medical waivers work. Its not the same as a normal redshirt(which maybe Cochran could be eligible for since he hasnt played in a game yet)
The medical redshirt isn't even a redshirt. Its a hardship waiver and you don't get to just "choose to sit out and be healthier"
To qualify you must play in less than 30% of team games(regular season) AND be deemed medically uncleared to play, then you submit the waiver and almost certainly get approved.
Good example would be a player rehabbing an ACL that happened last year(like Bryce Hopkins). That's a length recovery of sometimes close to 12 months. But can take a full year beyond that to really get back to where you were(if at all). If Hopkins is medically cleared from his rehab. He cant just say "well I already missed 15 games this year and wont be as explosive. Ill just play next year instead".
Can someone explain how Florida is at #6 in front of Marquette, Kentucky & KU?
First college basketball NET rankings released by NCAA: Tennessee is No. 1 ahead of Auburn, Gonzaga, Duke
The undefeated Volunteers and Tigers are at the top of the NCAA's metric for evaluating teams for the NCAA Tournamentwww.cbssports.com

Still doesn't make sense when looking at the parameters they use for the NET. Their numbers are all weaker than the 3 teams I mentioned. The Shockers nearly lose to a team that ranks, what 155, Florida destroys said team and for that they sit at #6?Florida beat the brakes off Wichita on a neutral floor.
NET factors in destruction a lot.
Its a little surprising because they don't have much quality in terms of wins and the rest of their games were consistent covers but nothing outrageous. But yeah, that basically explains it. Cover spreads. Often.

Thanks!!!Wichita has a top 100 net(barely but they do)
That's a Q2 win by 38 on a neutral floor. The NET takes efficiency heavily into account and that's where Florida is thriving.
Home/away. Good vs bad. That all matters for NET too. But efficiency is the common denominator.
Now as far as the NCAA and seeding NET is only a small part of the puzzle. Florida's overall resume in that regard is much worse than those teams. Kansas and Marquette especially put their resume to shame.
But NET wise its not overall shocking, a bit odd and shows to the "flaws" of the system. But its a known thing. Last year Big12 teams like BYU "cooked the books" so to speak by drubbing Q4 teams in non con.
But they keep adding criteria to selection Sunday to help combat that. Like this years "Wins above the bubble" stat that will be on the team sheets.

Illinois has played 3 ranked SEC teams and is ranked #19.....how can their SOS be worse than ours? Something feels off there.Per Warren Nolan, current Big Ten overall SOS rankings before some conferences (including the Big Ten) kick off this week:
#14 Oregon
#17 Purdue
#36 Michigan State
#48 Wisconsin
#58 Michigan
#62 Indiana
#93 Nebraska
#103 Ohio State
#131 USC
#140 Washington
#148 Iowa

Just looked again and one of those SEC games was an exhibition so wouldn't count but they still have played Alabama and Arkansas.Well polls are completely irrelevant to that
SOS is just that. Illinois has played some ghastly buy games.

Some of their other games are ridiculous though most notably Maryland Eastern-Shore.
Still surprised to see their SOS below ours but the bad teams on their schedule must be really really bad to offset the SEC teams.
Why don’t you just leave the board, you’re so disillusioned with the system you could probably spend your time elsewhere and be more productive. We're going to have to be very creative about how we enjoy Gopher basketball from now on.
I said several weeks ago that we will have to on focus things like our strength of schedule instead of our won/loss record.
Maybe start chanting "Big Ten, Big Ten" at the games.

Illinois still has Tennessee, Duke and Missouri on its nonconference schedule. The SOS will go up quite a bit after that.Yeah when over 50% of your schedule is really really bad teams it’s gonna weigh ya down big time.
But they do have 2 Q1 games played already. So their SOS would be frowned upon much less than a team like the gophers. Who have zero and a poor SOS.
How is Mizzou this year?
