Putting Gasoline Prices In Perspective

US and California real (i.e., inflation-adjusted) gas prices are nowhere near all-time high, at least a dollar lower than just before the financial crisis tanked the economy in 2008, lower than during many of the recovery years after that crisis, and only slightly higher than they hit in the year or two before the pandemic.

Sure, they are much higher than they were in the depth of the pandemic depression, BECAUSE NO ONE WANTED TO BUY GAS THEN. Uh, sorry for yelling. But shouldn’t it be pretty obvious that the price of a good when demand suddenly drops by half isn’t what we should be expecting for the long run.

Gas is right at the the average of last 15 years, but if you're a dumbass it's the end of the world

A cabin would be nice, but it sounds like alot of work. I doubt we would use it more than 5 or 6 weekends a year. Honestly the upkeep is why I wouldn't want it.
You don’t have the chops for lake life, Wallace.

was reading an article on the auto industry. due to supply-chain issues and parts shortages, new car inventory is way down, which is pushing the price of used cars way up.

a few highlights:

With manufacturers unable to ship enough new vehicles due to parts shortages, prices for new and used vehicles are skyrocketing. Some customers making trades are even getting more than they originally paid.

Walser Toyota is one of those dealerships scrambling for inventory. It usually stocks 600 new cars, but it had none on display during the Thanksgiving-Black Friday weekend. As this weekend began, its waitlist for new cars had 484 names.

Although used car prices typically drop in the fall, they were up an average of 37% through October compared with the previous year, according to J.D. Power Valuation Services, a leading market watcher.

Rising prices for used cars and trucks are a key factor in inflation this year. Consumer prices overall were up 6.2% in October compared with a year ago, with used cars and trucks up 26%, government data show. November's numbers will be released Friday.

Across the country, dealers were charging an average of $800 above the sticker price for new cars in October, vs. $2,300 below the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) in 2019, according to Kelley Blue Book, another leading market analyst. Butters said average transaction prices haven't topped MSRP in decades.

Does anyone think the world would be a better place, if prices never, ever rose?

Just asking for a friend.

Keep spending Howie. Surely more spending will lower inflation. It’s Rs fault that Ds spend too much.
All that's been spent so far is the Covid stimulus. Half of which was Trump's.

Nothing he could do
Here's a guy who masturbates to the idea of government doing far less than it currently does ..... but who is supposedly very angry that the current president isn't doing enough.

Uh huh. :ROFLMAO:

It’s funny all the Dems had to do was nothing and they would’ve been successful. In fact that’s what the American people voted for. A know nothing do nothing candidate.
Unfortunately, the goal of the left (the people driving the Dem clown car) is not the normal goal of making the country better. They saw a once in a lifetime opportunity to run a trojan horse moderate into office and direct him from behind the curtain with far left policies that the American population would never have voted for.

Their goal is to divide and tear down America, reduce the power and freedom of our nation and our economy in order to usher in globalism/socialism that they fantasize will make our environment better. They worship the environment and despise mankind. Only the elites should thrive in their world.

Open borders
Massive spending
Massive inflation
Giving away military equipment to terrorists
CRT in government and schools
Censorship
Media propaganda
Slowing our own oil industry while supporting that of enemies
Inviting urban crime with anti cop messages
Stirring racial division

This is a list of actions an policies that are no explained by incompetence. They are only explained by malign intent.

Not all the democrats in Congress are communists, but all the communists in Congress are democrats.

Imagine a mainstream republican doing the exact same thing, but change the organization to the Nazi party, and tell me if you’d grant the same defense.
Imagine Howie being honest....
