Indiana starting to stockpile talent

yup i saw that too and was going to start a thread. slowly but surely they are working their way up the big ten "ladder"

Its to bad that Tom Crean is the coach. His teams are were bigs go to die.

It seems like we hear this every year but at years end they still aren't all that great and two kids transfer.

No surprise here. IU is a traditional hoops powerhouse, they have too much tradition and charisma and too many boosters and too good of facilities not to bounce back eventually, and for a coach like Crean not to succeed would be a huge surprise. How long it will take, I don't know, but they'll be back.

The one problem for them is that Crean is still their coach. He put up a ton of great recruiting classes at MU, and didn't do squat with them except when he had arguably the best player in the country in Dwayne Wade.

Well, UWBadger, you have to admit that Marquette is not a powerhouse program and success there at a national level has been spotty. MU did not make a Final Four for almost 30 years until he took them there in '03 - heck, they've made only 2 Sweet 16s since 1980. So Crean generally did a good job there compared to the average season.

I do believe Crean's recruiting will help Indiana get back in the top half of the Big Ten sooner or later, but it's not going to be before these touted recruits arrive (i.e., it's not happening for IU this year). Indiana was the de facto worst team in the Big Ten last year (although they did not have Creek, they were still really, really bad), so I am not expecting big things from them this year because they have almost the same group of players - I'm not saying they can't be better, just that I'm expecting something like 12-15 wins this year. If they have an NIT season, it would be a pleasant surprise. Most likely 2012-13 will be the first season when IU fans can expect to field a team that legitimately can challenge for the Big Ten title, but 2011-12 could be a top-half finish if the basketball gods smile on them (i.e., no significant injuries/suspensions).

OSUFan,

Yeah, he did revitalize the program without a doubt, but outside of the Final 4 season he didn't do anything at MU with generally top 25 recruiting classes. It's no coincidence that MU fans are happy he's gone seeing as hoe he was not only an underachieving coach, but an arrogant bastard.

Agreed. Crean is not a great coach. He is a terrific recruiter.

The last phrase is perhaps a bit differently stated than I would put it but yes, Crean is very tough to play for and work with (I've been told).
