Indiana-Kentucky no more

That would be incredible, especially with Tubby here IMO.

1. I wonder if Cal would make a "neutral-and-neutral" offer that involved the Target Center (doubt it, but wish he would)?

2. If he did, would Tubby accept it?

There would be plenty of interest, both locally and certainly among UK fans.

I hate the neutral site junk! College bb needs more big games on campus - not in the Bahamas, or in New York, etc.. Good for Indiana!!!

For many years I preferred college BB and FB because it wasn't commercialized like pro sports.

Exactly. Plus love the live bands and not the piped in music.

I agree with you 100%. But if the only way we (as Gopher fans, and especially season-ticket holders) get a chance to play a program of Kentucky's ilk is to schedule a Target Center-KFC Yum! Center (Louisville) "home-and-home", I'll take it. It certainly wouldn't kill me if on occasion the Gophers play a game at Target Center if the reward is getting a truly quality opponent.

Kentucky also ended their series with UNC in the last year or so. Is paypal cal afraid, or is he going for an undefeated season?

When's the last time we played Marquette, Kansas, Missouri or Iowa State? You would think that at some point in the last 10 years we could have convinced one of them to play a home and home.

When's the last time we played Marquette, Kansas, Missouri or Iowa State?

Marquette (2000) -- Gophers won 61-59 in OT in Milwaukee. Gophers have won 4 straight dating back to 1987.

Kansas (1993) -- Kansas won 75-71 in Preseason NIT semifinals. KU leads all-time series 2-1.

Missouri (1960) -- Gophers won 60-56 in Columbia.

Iowa State (2007) -- Gophers won 68-58 in Ames vs. a Cyclone squad that included future NBAers Craig Brackins & Wesley Johnson.

In the '07 Gopher/Cyclones, Brackins played and had a great game. W Johnson did not play due to injury.

Point taken.

Can I get a half credit? Taken verbatim, what I said is correct (that ISU squad included 2 future NBAers), though I failed to remember Johnson was a DNP in what arguably was Tubby's 1st significant win (on the road vs. a BCS opponent) as Gopher head coach.

Cal is a coward. This matchup could be a huge draw every year. However, major rivalries only exist when a team is willing to enter an opponents hostile territory. It makes it so much more personal to steal a victory from your rival, in front of their own crowd. These types of games demand campus attention. Students treating them like a national holiday. Move them to a neutral site, and you forfeit what could be another HUGE university draw. Really makes no sense why they wouldn't play a home-and-home series.

Some on the ESPN board seem to think Cal wanted the neutral site games, both in the state of Indiana, to attract top Indiana recruits.

I wouldn't doubt it either. Cal is a slimy dude. Plus he knows that plenty of Kentucky fans will travel. It really isn't that far.

Look what happened with Arkansas and Memphis with coach Cal.

. Memphis vs. Arkansas

Series history: Razorbacks lead 11-10

Last meeting: Memphis 72, Arkansas 67 (2003)

Why did the series stop? Arkansas and Memphis played annually from 1991-2003 until then-Tigers coach John Calipari abruptly halted the series. Aware that the Razorbacks had recruited former stars such as Todd Day, Corey Beck, Ron Huery, Dwight Stewart and Arlyn Bowers from Memphis, Calipari believed he could shut down that pipeline by limiting Arkansas' presence in the city. Perhaps its coincidence or perhaps not, but Arkansas has fallen on hard times since then and hasn't lured anymore elite players from Memphis.

Will the series restart? New Arkansas coach Mike Anderson is a former Nolan Richardson aide who will surely make recruiting Memphis a greater priority once again, but Tigers coach Josh Pastner has no intentions of making it any easier for the Razorbacks. Pastner told an Arkansas radio station last month that the Razorbacks have approached him about restarting the series, but he has turned them down. "The bottom line is, where I stand, a lot of these teams want to recruit in Memphis," Pastner said. "Why do I want to help them out?"
